:) Hi there to anyone, and as I'm new here, and I'm sitting here doing updates and bored senseless, I thought I would ask if any one hunts, sport shoots or collects guns.

Be easy on me now, :-D I'm a LIFE MEMBER OF THE NRA and very proud of it. :major

I owned a gun and archery range for several years, I shot professional archery for several years. Unfortunately I never sat the world on fire with big time wins:( but I had a great time, got to know most of the big names in the archery business personally and was fortunate in taking several nice tropy bucks with a bow.

Needless to say I was almost raised with a 'fishin rod' and a 'gun' in my hands and it was a great way to be a kid and now an adult.

Damn... still problems :confused, I better get off for now... back later

I shoot both gun and bow, though I haven't been hunting in a few years. Too many neighbors, and not enough deer.

I have been diagnosed with EBG disease (evil black gun). Seems it has progressed into 1911 handguns with wood grips... And a strange craving for a custom Ed Brown stainless 1911.

Used to hunt, might do a little deer hunting next season.

I bought some 9mm bullets last week because they were on sale. I don't have a 9mm gun. Yet. :-D

I did find out for around $100, I can get a 9mm conversion barrel for my Glock 23. Much more cheaper shooting. :guns

Well my brother finally got his shotgun license, went to the gun store yesterday,we bought two shot 12 bore under over, kinda cool learning how disassemble it in the store and got to play with some other guns in there, including a 9 shot .357 winchester rifle and some massive silenced shotguns.

The guy in there was really cool not like one of these "don't touch!" freaks,he made it enjoyable and didn't mind getting a gun off the rack for us to have a play with even though we weren't buying it.

Going clay pigeon shooting soon and then maybe some rabbits ect. at local farms to warm things up:)

    Hey thanks all for answering...

I'm pretty much of a handgun guy... have a few left (home was robbed a few years back while we were away), favorites being:

    An original S & W Model 29 8 3/8" 44 mag

    A 686 S & W 4" 357 Mag

    A Glock 17

  6. Fred_G

    Fred_G Heat packin' geek

How is the recoil on that 44 mag? The Glock 17 is the full size 9mm? Sometime next week, I should have my Glock 19 mag and barrel in hand, making my Glock 23 .40 a 9mm range gun... :-D

I have shot a .357, manageable recoil. A friend of mine was telling me I need a real handgun, he shoots large caliber handguns. For me, If a .45 is not enough, I am going to use the .45 to get to my rifle. ;)

They are all fun to shoot.

Interesting combination of guns you have. Most wheel gun owners don't seem to like the Glocks. I just love guns.:-D

    Hi Fred...
I shoot stardard 240 Jacketed soft points and I don't find the recoil bad... when I had my store my ups man used to hand load for me and it was a real deer stopper.
4/5 shots with iron sights in a gallon milk jug at 100 yards...
I would tell you big wheel guns are fun... and I have small ones too...
I currently don't have a 45 as 6 were stolen in when our home was robbed and I just never replaced them, but the 45 is a great round and I read where a hiker chased off a griz with a 45 sa. which was attacking his girlfriend.
To me, there are few bad guns... I used to have several doubles and over and unders, rigles from my favorite rim fire a 22 mag up to a 338.
I luv my glock and I had to laugh when I took it in out here to have it ran thru and a new package put in it... the gunny looked at it and said, 'my god man, how old is this?'
When I returned to pick it up he informed me I had purchased it in 78.
I used to have 5 17s which I picked up in a trade from a sheriff's department, along with 40 some 17 round mags, but friends and family ended up with them all... lol
Oh yea, I used to have 5 muzzleloaders too... 36, 45, 45, 54 and 58... too dirty... lol
I have no shot guns, but my next purchase will be a short barreled 12, ext. mag with buckshot for CQB.
My next hand gun will probably be ?????? a 45 auto
But my grandson who now wears a badge carries a Glock 40 and hes trying to talk me into one of those...
I guess I could own a 1,000 if I had the money and the place to store them... hey, wait, I could open a gun shop again... lol
    Later dude

Haven't shot SA 45 and the Winchester is ancient Model 67. At the time I I bought bought the 40 I really wanted a 4inch 357 however Obama had threatened to ban sales and could not find one anywhere. Still glad I got the SA 40, shoots great.

Cool... I have my dad's model 67 22... graet little shooting...
The 4" 686 I have is a fantastic gun... very accurate, sweet to shoot and easy to pack in inside the pants holster...
I worked my way from an old model 19 in the old days to the 686 because it was a troopers/detectives favorite as it would punch thru windshields and doors with hardball or FMJ
My grandson who is on interstate drug patrol carries a Glock 40 and LOVES it...

I love the 6.8! Only downside is cost of ammo. But that is why I have a 5.56 AR for shooting bulk, and the 6.8 for hunting and social reasons. ;)

LOL, no, it won't. Bird shot is for little birds with hollow wings. This debate has raged on many sites. http://www.weeklytimesnow.com.au/article/2011/03/19/308781_latest-news.html Some blood here, so be careful if you are squeamish.

That one is walking away. I suspect different results with 00 Buck. Especially the Flite Control stuff.

Shoot what you wish. I will use 00 buckshot.

Jeez, I have been searching for the Glock 23 to 9mm conversion barrel all over, and everyone is out of stock except the ported one.

Any of you shoot any ported handguns?

Got my conversion barrel in today. Am going shooting with some friends Sunday. Will try it out. Don't really care for the almost 1" of extra barrel, but will see how I like a ported barrel. This is a range gun only, so no big deal about the extra length.

Dang 9mm ammo is super cheap compared to .40 and .45... I think I will have a source soon for ammo. $180 for 1000 rounds of 9mm... :-D $270 for 1000 .45! I will be a :guns:guns fool when he gets set up. The gun is a little picky about unloading the last round by hand. With no mag in, it drops the last round down the mag well. Should not be an issue shooting though.

  44. bdelapp

    bdelapp Specialist

Interesting... I would have thought it would eject last MT and lock open for a new mag...

I think you'll like the ported barrel...

Are you having luck finding ammo?

Wally World is the least expensive around here and new handgun stuff goes out almost as fast as it hits the shelves...

  45. Fred_G

    Fred_G Heat packin' geek

Well, it does ok if you tilt the gun a little bit. Probably because with the last round out of the magazine, when you pull back the slide, the bullet can slide down and the ejector can't grab it as it was made for a .40. I don't think it will be a problem when shooting. Some auto's don't function as well when hand cycled vs shooting.

Ammo? Do I have ammo? :-D Have had ammo for it before I bought the barrel. :-D Actually ordered everything at once, but the barrel was out of stock.

I don't buy ammo locally. Stores here charge way too much for it. I like ATG http://www.ammunitiontogo.com/index.php/cName/pistol-ammo?osCsid=3c0875cc248d9833750a0615cca0adc7 ATG has some interesting 'specialty rounds'. :-D And sometimes CTG has decent sales. http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/CategoryListing.aspx?catid=78&PN=hga

And if you like some high end 'tacticool' stuff, SSA has good stuff. http://www.ssarmory.com/

    No shortage of ammo online.

  47. Fred_G

    Fred_G Heat packin' geek

Well, pretty soon, $180 per 1K. Right now, I have been getting a few boxes of some Swiss stuff for around $9 for 50 rounds. Have to make sure this barrel adapter works before I make a real order. ;)

Duh, same price.:-D Math is not my strong point. But the Swiss stuff is like 9.89 a box, plus shipping, the other is Made in the good old Republic of Texas by a guy I have talked to on another forum, so would rather buy his stuff than imports.

  48. Fred_G

    Fred_G Heat packin' geek

Went to the range today. The 1911 is up and running with no problems. The 9mm conversion ported barrel in the Glock also worked flawlessly. Had a great time at the range, I am loving the 9mm for paper punching. :-D

I will not buy any more of that Russian .45 ammo. Gun eats it fine, but that is some smoky, and smelly ammo!

Hope you weekend went well. The guns are clean, got the wonderful scent of Hoppes #9 in the air, and I have cold beer.:-D
