    Hi all...

My very best Friend on earth (potentially my fiance'?) took me out, and bought me a very nice gift (Nikon digi-cam) for my birthday recently.

To sort of "go with it", she got a copy of Adobe Photoshop ("Elements 9") but we agreed at the time there, since she also bought herself a REAL NICE "REAL" camera (a BIG ol' CANON) , that we would "share" PhotoShop...neither of us really knowing what the heck we were talking about.

The fact is, we may "NOT" share this software program on two separate computers - is that not correct, please??

    Thanks in advance,
    g...

    Hi Glenn

The EULA (End User Licence Agreement) is HERE (PDF format)

The below is sounding like one Licence per PC PSE9 is installed on.

However this reads a bit like the Microsoft Office one in which you can install a copy on a Desktop and a Laptop (portable computer), although they state you cannot use both versions at the same time, can install them at the same time, but cannot be running them at the same time.

Could if you so wish install a free version of image editing software like Paint.Net, Picassa, Windows Photo Gallery, PhotoFiltre and Zoner Studio and other like GIMP etc

Photoshop Album Starter may still work on Win Vista and 7.

EDIT: one app I have just remembered is the Free Serif range of apps HERE, they are older versions but very feature rich. PhotoPlus is the one you want.

Hi David and thanks as always but wow...seems one needs a law degree to sort through all this *STUFF* any more (and then a TECH DEGREE of some sort to operate the program successfully - or certainly to operate it FULLY?!?) ... oh well :(

One thing that "may" be in our favor is that I believe that she wishes to use it on a MAC Pro (laptop, as you likely are aware), and of course I'm a dinosaur-DESKTOP kinda guy, so.... :)

    Thanks again David!

*EDIT* OH!! And also I have Windows Photo Gallery - but is that "image editing software"?? I thought that (WPG) simply came with my Vista prog.(??).

And oh - meant to add that I already have Paint.net installed, but I have MUCH better luck simply using Paint...the .net one just seems confusing to me... :(

Do you mean Windows Live Photo Gallery? It's really not an image editing program. It has a "Fix" feature which can make some automatic adjustment to photos to make some minor adjustment to correct over or under exposure. And, it can be used to resize photos, but that's about the extent of its editing features. Therefore, I wouldn't call it a photo editing program.

Windows Live Photo Gallery is part of the Windows Live group of products including Windows Live Movie Maker, Windows Live Mail, and Windows Live Writer. It's all free from Microsoft. Apparently, you've downloaded some Windows Live components sometime in the past. Or, it was pre-loaded on your computer when you got it. It does not, by default, come with any version of Windows.

Since you did not like Paint.net, you might try one of the others mentioned in this forum discussion. I suggest PhotoFiltre as your next trial. MS Paint is primarily a drawing tool/image (non-photo) editor, not a photo editor. Sure, it can be used to do some things with photos but it definitely would not be my choice if photo editing were my main goal.

Hey thank you very much for the education (seems I used to get a LOT of that)...doesn't seem like most folks are interested much anymore...although David here "Halo"/"DavidGP" is GREAT at educating...he certainly has been to me/for me.

Yes, at some point I got some Windows "Live" stuff on this PC (which made it through a complete hard drive wipe and reinstall of Vista) ... I did not reload (have not reloaded) any "Live" stuff, but remnants of it exist on this machine...

But now I'm really confused as I stated-off talking about Photoshop, me now having it, yet now we are speaking of these free programs?

I forget if David was talking about utilizing them in addition to Photoshop, and if that is what you too, are also suggesting - or what exactly...?

    I apologize... :(

Other programs were suggested because the software license agreement probably prohibits installing Photoshop on more than one computer. So, we're talking about using some other program(s) in lieu of Photoshop, not "in addition to" it.

If the software license does allow installing on more than one computer, then there's no need for other programs; you could use it as your sole photo editor. However, you also alluded to an issue of complexity of Photoshop and that was also a reason for suggesting other program(s).

    Greetings, grc123.

Great info from the other guys. I just wanted to add IrfanView to the mix, if you don't already have it on board. It may not have all of the bells and whistles that some of the heavyweights include (even with the PlugIns pack installed), but pound-for-pound I thinks it's the best free day-to-day image handler out there.

USAF-Vet & Caliban - thank you both - I apologize for my delay in getting-back here...simply TOO MANY irons in the fire (and can barely manage ONE).

I will look these programs...I am "HOPING" that David "G.P" is correct in suggesting in other posts to me that my Friend and I "can both" utilize this (PS), in that I am working on a PC/Desktop, and she would be using her laptop (and not both utilizing them simultaneously is not an issue).

Caliban I "toyed with" IrfanView years ago (or perhaps it "TOYED" with me !?! hah) ... it may have just come-out, and from what I recall was pretty nice - especially in that it was a "smaller" program (which is what I was very much looking for at the time), as well as the fact that it did NOT have too many bells and whistles - I ALWAYS appreciate!

I didn't come-up with the simple username here that I did by accident or for no reason ~ hahaaaaaaaaa!

Thanks again - MUCH - folks! :wave ;) :major

    Hi, Glenn.

Make sure you post some of your work (from both of you - good luck with the "fiancée" part! ;)) in the Lounge.
