    Hi, I'm Miki and you guys have helped me before.. Thanks so much. Looks like I need your help again...

    I've ran the READ ME AND RUN ME FIRST instructions, and I still have problems.

    The explorer dosen't show up sometimes when I turn the computer on. I usually open task manager then, close the "explorer.exe" and then run it again with 'new task'... still is weird.

    Another thing is there's seems to be a lot of 'svchost.exe' running all the time (something like 10 of them). I don't know what that means. There's also alywas a "non-active system function" (i translated it to English so it's probably not called exactly that).

    There used to be an Error message about 'csrss.exe' not existing everytime I got into windows, but looks like the READ ME AND RUN ME.. took care of it, because it's gone.

    One last thing is,
    sometimes when I reboot, it says something about having to close Firefox (which is not running, I think)..

    Thanks a lot..
    Miki

    Here is the rest.

    I also added two other logs from SAS and MB, that I ran about a month ago, and didn't finish the whole routine... the ones I put in the first post are the newer ones.

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    * If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    File::
    C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\Ad-Aware Update (Weekly).job
    C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\At1.job
    F:\q3kku.exe

    Registry::
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{36c8b99b-5535-11df-83b1-0016cff43fac}]

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{6f9bb4f9-ebb2-11de-836e-0016cff43fac}]

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    If it asks you to overide the previous file with the same name, click YES.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif
    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\ComboFix.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Nothing was fixed. Let's do at it a different way.

    Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    * Extract+ avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * -Do not change any check box options!!
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:

    * Now click the Execute button.
    * Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    * Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    * Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

    Now run Ccleaner to clean out only temp files and nothing else!

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).Make sure that you watch for the license agreement for TrendMicro HijackThis and click on the Accept button TWICE to accept ( yes twice ).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\Avenger.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    I think that maybe nothing was fixed because i did something wrong in the process.. I say this because when combofix ran it looked exactly the same as the first time I ran it (and I remember it should look a bit different when you drag the script onto it..). Could be that my combofix copy isn't the regular one? The icon on it isn't the usual animal thingy.. It's a red circle with an 'X' in it.

    The link to download combofix here got me to a corrupt copy so I downloaded this one on another site..

    Did not follow your last instruction yet, waiting to see what you say.
    Thanks,
    Miki

    Yes and because of this you have a copy of ComboFix that is almost 4 years out of date. You need to use only the links we give you and nothing else.

    Follow TimW's last instructions with Avenger.

    You need to follow instructions properly. Please run Avenger properly now after extracting it to the Desktop.

    The do the below.

    Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
    Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
    to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    Also delete the below file if it still exists:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\conhost.exe

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\avenger.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    The avenger didn't seem to run succesfully again... Ran it properly this time.

    The fixme.reg worked.

    Thanks again

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Now tell me what malware issues you are still having, if any.

    Also, what are you using for AV protection? Are you using AVG, but removed it to run the scans?

  12. miki.fromchenko

    miki.fromchenko Private E-2

    yes, exactly I use AVG but removed it completely.

    Ran what you told me.

    I'm not sure if I still have malware problems.

    Should I send you any more logs?

    The CD drive isn't working.. I mean it's working (lights and all) but the computer won't recognize the CD's... Maybe this have nothing to do with malware but I'm mentioning it because I'm completely clueless in this.

    Thanks so much.

    You are most welcome. I suggest you post in the hardware forum for the issue with your CD drive.

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.We recommend them for doing backup scans when you suspect a malware infection.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
        for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    9There's something odd I'm not sure about when I'm trying to unistall combofix..

    Like we established this is a 4 years old copy of it... When I'm putting the line you gave me in RUN it opens combofix as usual (with the press 1 to continue, 2 to abort) I thought it might run it again so stopped and came here to ask you..

    Thanks

    Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
    "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /U

    Did that work?

  16. miki.fromchenko

    miki.fromchenko Private E-2

    Nope..
    Does the same..

  17. TimW

    Then you can just manually remove all the Combo items including the Qoobox. You may then need to go to the control panel / folders / and click on view and reset your system files to hidden.

  18. chaslang

    chaslang MajorGeeks Admin - Master Malware Expert Staff Member

    Just run MGclean.bat as it normally will remove all the items that need to be deleted.

    Again, late response...

    I ran the cleaning file you told me to, I still have these:

    In C: Combofix.txt(a batch file). and a bunch of logs.

    On desktop: Combofix.exe, Rootrepeal, avenger(exe and archive), CFscript, fixme.reg, and settings.DAT(which i don't even remember).

    Can I delete all of those manually?

  20. TimW

    TimW MajorGeeks Administrator - Jedi Malware Expert Staff Member

    Yes, you can manually remove them. Don't worry about the settings.dat, just go into the control panel, right click on folders and click on the view tab. Set system files and folders to hidden again.

  21. chaslang

    chaslang MajorGeeks Admin - Master Malware Expert Staff Member

    Nope!!! It is from RootRepeal and should have been removed when MGclean.bat was run. That is if it ran properly. Since all those other items mentioned were not removed, it would mean MGclean.bat did not run properly. This likely occurred for the same reason that the combofix uninstall is not working. And that is because this is not an English language Windows and the Desktop folder does not exist, which is why you cannot do this >>> "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix"

    The Desktop folder showed up like this >> ùåìçï äòáåãä in the ComboFix log but you cannot run scripts using these characters. Thus manual removal is necessary for languages not recognized by ComboFix or MGclean.bat
