Ok, here on MG, while perusing threads, when I hover my cursor over an "attached thumbnail" and the jpg loads, but never displays. This has been a problem for some time now and I believe it to be a plug-in i must be missing from firefox 4 . I'm running windows 7 64 bit.
When i hover my cursor, it turns into the little spinning "wait" circle, then the title bar for the jpg shows up and the rest of the screen greys out, but the .jpg never shows up. What am I missing ?

Was this a problem prior to Firefox 4? I don't believe images posted in the forum require a special browser plug-in. Can you post a link to one of those forum topics? I can't find one now.

Have you tried viewing the forum with another browser?

Edit: The feature works somewhat for me but, sometimes, I initially get the behavior you mention. So, it does not work smoothly and consistently like it should for me. Usually, if I close the box where the image is supposed to appear and then immediately hover over the thumbnail again, the enlarged image appears. I'm using Firefox 3.6.16.

Are you running AdBlock Plus? I've had to disable it to get some things to show at MajorGeeks.

sorry guys, too busy to try out a solution yesterday, i have a couple of hours this morning before work to try it out . Also a thanks to usafveteran - i didn't overlook you advice. Sometimes i get frustrated when I try to help people, and then others post after me and my advice goes seemingly unnoticed, sometimes after spending time researching a problem for someone.

Ok thats it i just "diabled ABP on forums @ majorgeeks.com" . Now i see the hover overs, and smilies too. I guess ABP is getting more aggressive, which is a good thing in my book, but they need to be more careful so as not to interfere with the proper functionality of legit stuff like forum smilies and jpg's .
At any rate, the problem is now solved and I thank all of you for your advice. MG wins again .

Hmm, curious. Which list were you using in ADP? I'm using Fanboy's and I don't see a problem on MG's.

Try this: Edit the options for EasyList: scroll down (close to the bottom) for "||majorgeeks.com/images/*.jpg" and uncheck them.

I'm also using Easylist so I can see why you and I have a problem at MajorGeeks but satrow doesn't.

Just thought I'd mention clicking on embedded images instead of hovering over them also makes them appear. And, clicking again anywhere on the page makes them recede/disappear.

I tested EasyList, got the same problem and this fixed the problem for me:
(Don't forget to apply it) and you get the bonus of being able to continue using ADP :).

You may want to add other extensions there. I personally never use .jpg, but use .png instead. :)

    Ok I followed satrow's advice. I re-enabled ABP and unchecked "|majorgeeks.com/images/*.jpg"
Seems to have worked fine .
Issuing a thumbs up to all contributors !
