The malware is at a all time high:major

After 10 years of using windows I making switch to Linux the malware has got way too out of control for me in 10 years too much work .

Less than 1% people use Linux there is hardly any malware out for it and you are admin user that can run sudo command or SU to actually Switch-User to a root user when you need root privilege.

On average I get a malware infection every 2 weeks and this not going to porn sites , free music, free movies ,free games ,free software or other free stuff or use of torrent.

Never open e-mail or email attachment you do not know of.

If I tried to do that I will get malware in less than day.:yum Even day is too Long!!

I know people who use Linux or Mac computer and they do not get malware like this and some of those people bad surfing habits porn and all other free movies ,free music and software so on.

Hmm I don't know what I am doing differently. I use free antivirus, windows own firewall, I surf to a variety of websites and *touch wood* I have not had an infection since the time I first bought a new computer, about 4 years ago) and well, I invited it in really downloading animated screensavers :-D

From what I have seen you have never gone through our Malware Removal procedure here at MGs. If you did, for whatever reason you chose Not to post logs.

The fact is, if you have been infected, which you are saying you have been, you probably have never gotten your machine completely clean.

Most infections now days require manual removal in addition to multiple software tools.

I would suggest you go through the READ & RUN ME FIRST Malware Removal Guide (incl. spyware, virus, trojan, hijacker)

I also hear from a friend that runs his own tech business that people are now putting viruses and such in those ad banners on websites and by just opening the site your are inviting the virus right in

I have had 1 infection in more than 7 months and that was my own fault :-o

I use Avast free antivirus coupled with Malwarebytes antimalware (also free)
and that catches most naughty intrusions.

I am with the other members here and at a loss as to how you are being infected if as you say you are safe surfing.???

    I would suggest Firefox Addons.
    Adblock Plus
    WOT
    No Script

Well put things into point view in the past 4 months I got 10 malware attempts .

Out of the 10 malware attempts 8 got blocked by Kaspersky and never made it way to the system. The other 2 got way to the system and I had to run the Kaspersky scan to remove it.

Is that not called social engineering ? You click on a web site that has bad code? Or picture that you think is JPG but is is in disguise?

Or a pop up and you click on close but it really is not close but is run and the people who made pop up say close on the pop up but is really is run.

I don't understand your problem either. My only active protection is MSE, my router's firewall and the Windows firewall. I haven't had an infection of any sort in years.

I would say you still need to review your surfing habbits, the applications you have and are they fully upto date, is Windows upto date fully, review your security applications as in some instances more than an Antivirus application is needed, something like Spywareblaster, all it does is add known bad sites (activeX as well) to the blocked sites list of IE and Firefox, this just reduces your risk a little, its not perfect but helps.

Malware is getting sneeky and indeed can be on infected websites where an SQL Injection or somesuch has infected the server and site,

To put things into perspective, I have never had a malware infection in 20yrs+ (although malware has not been that prevalent in the early years I was on the net) and I dont always safe surf, tend to use a Virtual PC install to test out some unknown sites, when they are posted on the forum here and while in some instances their has been a popup warning from my AV, there has been no infection.

I have SP1 I have not cough up the money to get windows 7 .

For security like Java,scrip,active-x or flash so on I fear if I play wiith this well web site may not work and this may be worse than malware If 90% of the web sites do not work.

If you are using sp1 on vista, you aren't fully updated. If you are using sp1 on XP you are WAY behind because XP is up to sp3 . If i were you, I would run windows update multiple times to get all updates inlcuding your missing system pack(s) . I would then get Firefox and use Adblock Plus, Adblock plus pop-up addon and Element hiding helper for Ablock plus. These are all compatible with the new, faster Firefox 4 and will help a great deal. I use Avira free, MBAM free, Spyware Blaster, and SAS, and the Windows 7 firewall, and I haven't had any malware in quite some time .

btw- the following was copy/pasted from wiki :

Social engineering is the act of manipulating people into performing actions or divulging confidential information, rather than by breaking in or using technical cracking techniques.

I have no firewall but how will a firewall help? Also what is wrong with windows firewall?

    I have Kaspersky

    I use Kaspersky for this

I have none on the computer .I thought Kaspersky can do this too?

    Have not install those programs.

So would this be Social engineering or a Trojen?

This brings up a good question how many web site or percentage of the internet have malware base on my stats malware infection .

If I can get on average one or 1.5 malware infection every 2 weeks with my lack of security and surfing habbits with out malware teem to make sure it was 100% safe surfing not close to borline of starting to be not safe surfing than doing not safe surfing or full speed not safe surfing and still lack of security will be expeditiously growth of epidemic of the internet.

That be 10% to 15% internet has Malware doing the Math than.

    simple

    1-free music
    2-free movies
    3-free games
    4-free software/program
    5-free stuff and porn
6-read every spam and junk mail
    7-P2P and torrent

You get malware in less than a day doing this.

Well borline of starting to be not safe surfing would be going to blogs ,web site with out reading if the site is safe or not and wallpaper ,screensaver probably this why I'm getting the malware.

Just clicking on any blog or web site could still have malware even if it does not match the 7 law of safe surfing above.

And probably this why I'm getting the malware.

Also note do not use google image search or video search very dangerous and never use skins . I got enough malware in past doing this .

They are pulled from every web sites and some that are 7 law of safe surfing .

And when I'm on the internet I use the administrator account I'm so bad the malware now has full administrator read and write access.

    Hi,

I'm new here myself, but I can't help but ask you why you started this thread in the first place?

You got a top quality analysis why you have problems, how to get rid of them, and how to keep your computer clean in the future.

Still, you don't seem to want to change anything; at least I can't see from your posts that you are taking any action. That's a waste of everyone's time, including your own, don't you think?

The internet is not going to turn into a clean place because you ask it to do so, just like physics are not going to change because you don't want to wear a safety belt in your car.

Learn to drive safely, and you'll probably not have car accidents. Learn to be safe on the net, and you'll most likely not have malware problems. Same thing.

I know it requires some time and effort to learn and apply this stuff, but it's not rocket science, especially with the amazing help that the people on this web page and forum offer.

If you keep doing the same thing, you will keep getting the same results, and nothing will change for you.

Just get started, apply the excellent advice given in this thread's answers. It's the only way, aside from stopping to use a computer.

    Cheers,

    Matt

This is where it is false people that thing just becuse they have good anti-virus pogram, good firewall, boat load of other scan and remover tools they are safer .Along with not using a administrator account and up to date system and doing every thing saying at majorgeeks .

They than get sloppy and start to go to non safe surfing .

Look do not click on any web site or blog with out running it through a site adviser or reviews.

There could be malware any where at any site 7 law of safe surfing above or not it just 7 law of safe surfing has more malware.

A site like PChelp desk, math-geak ,outdoor fun ,cooking, Mikes blog of housing bubble ,Rob page on the economy any one could have malware.Yes any one .

In the past 4 months 10 malware is prove I have 2 options.

Get Linux or run the sites through site adviser or read the reviews before clicking and do not download cool stuff like wallpaper ,screensaver probably this why I'm getting the malware.

The fact that only 2 slip through and got on the system is celebration that only 2 slips through and not more.

Here is thing that say in 5 days from now there is new anti-virus program that is the best of the best that blocks 99% of malware most likely people will get sloppy than say a anti-virus program that blocks 50% of the malware and get more malware from not learning safe surfing.

Look there is malware every where .It just the mods here don't click on web sites or blogs blindly if they are getting malware only 1 every 5 years or 1 every 10 years or less ( blocked or not by the anti-virus program the malware )

Yeah sorry but that's just not quite true.

You are right: No security software will protect you from unsafe behaviour (although some do try to an extent).

But you are wrong assuming that just because even with all the right security software and settings you can still get infections if you do stupid stuff or are really really unlucky, there is no point in getting the security of your computer right.

That's like saying "there are some accidents where even a seat belt doesn't help you anymore, therefore seat belts don't make sense and I won't wear one".

So, if you want to switch to Linux, of course you can do that. But that won't stop you from having other problems with your unlogical thinking.

The malware that "slipped through" your security system did so because your security system is absolutely inadequate, not because Windows can't be safe.

    Stuff to do... take care!

    Matt

This could be a big part of your problem. I'm surprised no one caught this. Being on the Internet without a firewall is just asking for trouble.

Windows firewall has improved in Windows 7 and Windows Vista, compared to Windows XP. I use Windows firewall with all three of these OS but I also use a router which provides a hardware firewall protection on top of Windows firewall. In your case, I suggest you get http://majorgeeks.com/Comodo_Personal_Firewall_d5033.html, and do it ASAP.

I don't think you understand there is no such thing has 100 security .What I'm saying if in 10 years of computer use and only 2 really bad infections and 9,000 infections got blocked I'm more likely to torrent and all other cool stuff.

The more malware I get the more I'm looking at the my surfing habits.

Look it great no free music ,no free movies ,no free games ,no free software ,no free programs ,no porn ,no torrent or P2P,no not read every spam and junk mail !!!

But I over looked the borderline not safe surfing wallpaper ,screensaver and click on web sites or blogs blindly .

Just because you not looking for 7 rule of law not do or search for does mean you 100% safe surfing .

What I'm saying people do not click on web sites or blogs blindly just because it does not meet the 7 law of do not do .

All the anti-virus pogram, good firewall, boat load of other scan and remover tools and proper security is just going cut down on malware making way on to the computer thus be blocked it not going make the web site malware free.

So theoretically that say in 5 years we have the most secure OS and browser ever built so good and conplex it is well more so than the space shuttle and best of thest Kaspersky that blocks 99.9% malware. It not going make the web site malware free.

If I'm complaining malware pop ups in such numbers it is up to me to change borderline not safe surfing to safe surfing .Before I get some nasty malware that Kaspersky can not remove ,browser hijacking ,pop ups ,slow computer, lock ups, toolbare malware, website redirects and so on.

It is up to me to not assume just because you not looking for 7 rule of law not do or search for on the internet does not make it that click on web sites or blogs blindly safe , because you not looking for 7 rule of law of not to do.

You have been given adequate advice. It is up to you to either follow it, switch to Linux or do nothing. We have exhausted this topic. :major
