theres another thread about this from 2008 but it is unanswered, and rather than revive such an old topic i figured i would create a new one.

my issue is that my 16gb patriot memory usb flash drive is seen by my bios as an internal hdd. sometimes i reboot with the drive in, and have to remove it in order to complete the boot due to the fact that windows resets usb ports on bootup and creates errors for itself (none visible to the end user other than the lack of a loading icon/ability to boot).

what i need to do is adjust the usb drive to be seen as a usb drive rather than an internal hdd by the bios.

Go into the BIOS at setup and look for the boot order option. Set the USB drive as the last boot option or disable USB booting entirely (in the event you ever have to use a USB device for a system restore you'll have to go back in the BIOS and re-enable it). This works in most cases.

    Hope this helps. :)

this is a very generic work around and is incorrect. because of windows resetting the usb ports as it loads, the device is "disconnected" and "reconnected". windows is being loaded from a sata drive. the usb drive has no relevant data on it. because of the device being reset, windows detects what the bios considers an ide device as a usb device.

the issue, as stated, is that a usb drive is being seen as an internal hdd rather than an external drive by the bios which is where my issue is. i dont care about any os booting.

The 'workaround' offered was generic because you've supplied no data on your motherboard.

the issue is not with the motherboard. this happens on all machines. as i said the bois sees the drive as am ide hdd instead of a usb flash (most bios say usb-zip i believe)
