Hi I ran Root Repeal and this came up in red as hidden. My computer has been acting weird tonight...it wouldn't go online and my keyboard stopped working. Spybot found and destroyed whole bunch of spyware. Then I restarted it and now the keyboard and Internet are working again, but the computer sounds funny. I've attached the Root Repeal log. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Tim!

Yes, I did all that. I ran Spybot which found a bunch of spyware. Then I ran the others...Super AntiSpyware, Malware Bytes found nothing. I ran ComboFix and it said it detected a rootkit and had to restart my computer and then continued. When it was finished it said the computer had no rootkits but when I restarted the computer this morning I ran ComboFix just in case and the same thing happened again. I can't run MG Tools...(someone was helping me figure out how to maybe change stuff around (notebook) to get it to run on another thread a couple of months ago but I got caught up in other things, have to get back to that.)

I can't help you unless you attach the requested logs. What OS are you running? Is it 32 or 64 bit? What happens when you try to run MGTools?

Please click Start, Run, and enter cmd and click OK. This will open a command prompt window. Enter the below commands at the command prompt each followed by the enter key. The bold black are commands. The purple is merely informational.
cd \MGtools <-- this changes to the MGtools folder and the prompt should change to C:\MGtools>
GetRunKey <-- this will try to run all one scan from MGtools. Tell me what error messages, if any, you see.
ShowNew <-- this will try to run all another scan from MGtools. Tell me what error messages, if any, you see.

Tim, please let me know if ACPI.sys is the rootkit and if I should delete it. Since your last email, my keyboard has stopped working twice and I've had to spend hours using a combination of mouse tricks (copying and pasting), combofix, and shutting off and turning on my computer to get the keyboard to work.

If I can't get the MG Tools info to you, please let me know if there is something I can do first with Root Repeal like deleting ACPI.sys just to get my keyboard running consistently. Thanks.

I'm running the MG Tools instructions. It showed now errors. Here is the attachment. And also the ComboFix attachment. Also I realized that the Malwarebytes gets an error message when trying to update, although it runs and found no malware.

You need to move ComboFix directly to your desktop, not here:
    Running from: c:\documents and settings\Breindel\My Documents\Downloads\ComboFix.exe

ACPI.sys is a normal windows file. It is not something to worry about.

The only thing I see that you want to remove/delete are these:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\.119889580931711767808769176
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\.24554863501262644635642126105

You managed to get a NewFiles txt, but did you not get the RunKeys.txt?

I think your issues are probably due to problems with your OS. Have you tried doing a repair install?

The runkeys just said something to the effect of..."chaslang...ignore any error messages"

    What does OS mean?

Operating System. Do you have your installation disc?

    Windows? Yes.

    Try this:
Go to start / run / and type:
sfc /scannow and have your disc handy. Run it twice to see if it finds any system errors.

Then tell me what malware issues you are still having, if any.

OK. I'll be going offline soon and I'll try and run it and reply back on Sunday. Thanks, Tim!

    Hi Tim!

Happy Easter if you're Christian or Mormon.

OK this was weird. I did it, and I waited until the Windows thing was finished analyzing, took about half an hour...and then it finished. And nothing came up! Not even a screen to say that it was finished analyzing. It just disappeared. I waited a minute or so, that was a few minutes ago...still nothing.

    Should I remove the disc?

    Tink

Yes, you can remove the disc. What issues are you still having, if any?

I don't know, I haven't really been on. Is that how the disc is supposed to work?

It would have told you if it found any corrupt or missing system files. Your not having malware issues, so anything that is going on should probably be addressed in the software forum. You might benefit from doing a repair install.

Do let me know what issues you are having.

    In the meantime:

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.We recommend them for doing backup scans when you suspect a malware infection.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
