How not to be boring.

We didn't get burnt out or over moderated. I mean... Way to jump to conclusions. We had real lives, growing families, and shiz to do. Frankly, we were the ones DOING the moderating. And the few that were left? Didn't have anyone interesting left to talk to. That's why they only check in with eachother, there hasn't been anyone exceptional to talk to since we all moved on.

I hear ya, Tim. I had a guild, running it, and it was AWESOME for the longest time.. but then some of the other people got "too comfortable" and turned into a bunch of Jackasses. I was GL and I had put 4 years an a lot of work ingot it and I just quit rather than deal with it. Now I'm running the new one for about a year... But you're right.. it is what it is. Like missing cheating a foosball at Kahunaville. You can miss it, but it's just not coming back.

Uhg I wish. I expanded exponentially in most unflattering directions, but that comes from birthing 10+ lb babies in quick succession.

If I could do that I'd have restarted at a prior restore point AGES ago.

 

Lots of the old crew is around, just bored with new posters offering random help, not even reading the posters post about what he needs, posting copy pasted help, or even just posting wiki or the first googled link that came up.

 

That's not help.. that's college on the internet. Anyone can do it.

Or you could quit whining and try to do something more constructive than rant about how bored and unhappy you are that it's not like "the good old days" anymore...

Start the types of threads you want to see. If others like your threads, they will post in them. Lead by example, et cetera. If you had time to write a 10-paragraph post on everything that everyone else is doing wrong, you have time to create new topics that you think are less boring, and to follow up with replies to the replies. And if no one posts in your threads, then accept that things have changed and change with them, or move on. Regardless of what you might think, we're actually not here to entertain you. You have your kids for that.

 

In an effort to be a bit constructive, I was actually going to suggest that perhaps those sub-forums could be removed. I see very little traffic in them, aside from spammers that I dutifully report, but few substantial threads that would lead to discussions. Unfortunately this leads to a vicious downward spiral in that it doesn't encourage anyone to post new threads in a forum that clearly has very low traffic. Thread creators want to be noticed, and new threads are unlikely to be created in an area that is perceived as being ignored.

I understand a desire to keep for example gadget threads out of the Lounge, but why can't the topics discussed in Collectors' Corner just as well be here? Hearth and Home, the Cars forum, and Gadgets, can all be lumped into one single "non-computer tech" forum... though obviously with a better name than what I just improvised.

Just a thought. Whether it's a possible or even desirable thing to do, I leave to others to decide.
