    Hi

I have a HP Pavilion dv6 112ei . I received it as a replacement from HP after my last one had the problem Nvidia graphics card. I got it last year in June.

It runs for a while, sometimes for a couple of hours, sometimes a few minutes before a horrible noise starts. It sounds like an engine under strain, or like something going around with something flapping off it. I have tried blowing the vents out with a relatively high powered blower. I think it is comming from the fan. The bottom of the lap top also seems to heat up quickly when the noise starts. I switch off, restart. Sometimes the noise starts up quickly, other times I can go for an hour or so before it comes again.

    Greetings, tadpole.

Sounds like you've got some fan replacement fun in your future. They're usually not too hard to replace - go to the HP website, plug in your specs, and grab the Service manual which should give a step-by-step for the procedure. Before tearing the machine down, I'd look up the part number and have a replacement fan on hand.

Thanks, I had taken a look at the manual. I thought I would just check and see if anyone had any other suggestions before I try an dismantle the laptop. I havn't tried a total dismantle before and am a little nervous in case I can't get it back together again!

    Hi

I have looked up the manual for my pavillion. It gives two fans :

For use only with computers equipped with graphics subsystems with discrete memory 532141-001
For use only with computers equipped with graphics subsystems with UMA memory 532142-001

How do I tell which one I need to order? I did e mail HP, but they never replied.

Here is the link to my specs :

My guess from the specs is that you need the second one, but I am not sure.

Before you order from HP, have a look on ebay for a fan. There are plenty of authorised resellers floating around on there who can sell you official legitimate parts for a lot less than HP might want, and they could help you find the right part as well. Just make sure they are legitimate authorised resellers first.

    Hi Collins

Thanks for the ebay tip! I will take a look there and see if I can find one there, and confirm I need the second fan listed.
