    Hi.

    We'll start over.

    Welcome to Major Geeks.

I have no idea if it's possible to recreate a golden snitch, although I would think it would be a matter of some sort of robotics.

    I'm not afraid - I just don't remember all of them ...

Lol oh. Well I appreciate it. You had me confused there, and I appreciate your input. I also wonder if some sort of robotic structure would be necessary to create it.. It's such a small device though, I can't imagine it being that difficult to make. It would probably require a chip for it to fly around when activated, etc and I just really would love to own one.

    Hi

Yes the tech exists in some forms and has done for quite some time, you'll need to start searching for information on Micromechanical Flying Insect's as a start

To gain somthing the doesnt look to mechanical and organic as in the flight of the snitch in the film then that would more be research thats being developed now and likely by defence agencies as well as robotic scientists.

I think the technology does exist but the snitch itself, the wings as depicted in the movie, lack the aerodynamics to hold up the ball. So they could make something extremely similar but since it would have to be based on gravity and not magic it would look a little different.

Yes, the wings would probably have to act more like a house fly than flowing birdy type wings, with a tight, roughly figure eight type beat and counter balances. They do have tech that can do that, but no where near as 'pretty' as the Snitch.

I posted this thread idea on three different forums, and I've been getting various feedback from many people. Half are saying its not possible currently, the other half are saying the tech exists but not to that degree. Can somebody help me understand why something as trivial and small as a Golden Snitch would be difficult to develop? I don't understand. What would it really need to function properly and work as well as the one in the movie? I'm tired of people making papier-mâché replica's. That shit is stupid lol. I really would like to see an actual golden snitch. It would be mindblowing. It would sell like mad and hardcore harry potter fans would pay out the *** for them.

It's not trivial, the tech is here but not to the degree that fantasy movies can develop with CGI, if it was we would be riding around on the Light Cycles from TRON.

Please refrain from the un-needed language you will see it in the *** of your post and a warning I gave you earlier in your malware tread, further language will have all your posts removed, this is a forum for all ages etc so treat it as PG in the movies.

Does that mean I have to behave too? Dammit.

This is the snitch, as is. The exact repllca of the snitch defies physics, and is therefore, despite the technology, not feasible as an exact replica.

However with some modifications to structure the over all concept definitely IS. But it would not look exactly like the golden snitch.

So your question, can it be done? Exactly as is, no it can not. But can something similar be done and be painted gold? Sure as hell can, but it wont be all pretty and feathery. It will sound like a humming bird and have dots all over it where the sensors are. If it was completed with nano technology instead of regular, it may be possible to stay the same size, but not otherwise :)
