For the last few days I have been trying to get rid of this redirect virus.
I first started having problems April 20th after going to mysoju.com and clicking on one of the streaming videos that linked to Megauploads.
At the same time I was on a game who's client server and webpage server all went down at the same time.

I restarted my router and that seemed to help for a little while but now i'm getting a webpage every time I start up firefox that goes to some " you won" site again.

I have run spybot S&D and it found the Click.giftload hijacker.

I'm honestly thinking of doing a fresh start once my boot disk comes in from Acer, but would like to exhaust all options before that.

I will attach all the logs, but was unable to run root repeal says that there is a driver error and it couldn't scan.

Also can't run TDSS from kaspersky. It stops at 80% every time. I even renamed the file and it still won't load.

    I'm Running
    Windows XP 32-bit

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Boot into the Windows Recovery Console that you installed using ComboFix. Once you are at the command prompt, enter the below command to fix the Master Boot Record.

    fixmbr

Then reboot and see how things are working.

When it boot into the recovery console it says. To "a disk read error occurred press ctrl + alt + del to restart" I press ctrl alt del and nothing happens. Have to force a reboot with the power button

Okay then you will need your Windows XP boot CD to boot to the Recovery Console so that you can run fixmbr. Do you have your CD?

I don't have my Windows XP boot disk yet. Still waiting on Acer to send it to me since Aspire One doesn't come with with a disk from the box. It has a hidden partition that's supposed to work like the boot disk but every time i try to access the partition it freezes up. Boot disk should be here either Saturday or Monday. But if you could instruct me on what to do when I get the boot disk I should be able to read the instructions as I go from either my phone or the desktop.

Normally this are factory recovery partitions not Windows Recovery Console partitions. A factory recovery, puts you back to the same state your PC was in when it came out of the box which is not what 99.9% of people wish to do unless there is no other option.

You can wait for your disk and then do the below
Or optionally you may want to try creating and using Hiren's CD to fix the MBR. See what was posted in message # 12 of the below thread and see if you can get this CD to run. If you still need special drivers to access your drive, you will need to post in the Software Forum on how to do this.

    whistler/black internet@mbr again!

Ran Hiren's MBR fix and then ran TDSS. Computer seems to be running faster. No freezing or lagging, no redirection and it actually allowed me to view the Microsoft updates page. Running Spybot just to make sure I'm clear. Attached the log from TDSSkiller.

McAfee did remove a trojan called Artemis from combofix, I'm guessing that's nothing to really worry about.

    Hopefully I'm in the clear.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
