Well after several weeks of putting it off, I just got back from Sears. They were running an additional 10% off today, between 6pm and 9pm.
I got the tractor that I wanted and on sale. Win-win.
    Here's what I bought:
    http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_07128885000P

    Delivery on 5/13.

My old was a Wizard, by MTD. 14 & 1/2 hp Briggs and Stratton, 42" cut.

New tractor is Craftsman, 21hp, 46" cut and automatic transmission.

Hopefully, will cut down the mowing time. We have just a smidgen under 2 acres

Right now, we probably have the worse looking lawn on the block.

My daughter's boyfriend's friend, has a landscaping company, so he is going to make sure that we get a cut while waiting for our new tractor to arrive.
But as of now, we are looking pretty shabby.

I'm looking forward to climbing up on it for the 1st time and she what she can do.

Did I mention more power? Gotta love power.:strong

I have this one. I'm having a terrible time getting it to mow even and it's hard to engage the blades. We have 1 acre, and it's got a big hill:-D

Very nice. You'll enjoy the ell outta the hydro-drive. Getting a snow plow for the front for winter?

Own 2 small units. One I leave @ a rental house. 1/4 acre to cut. Older 2 cyl 16hp Briggs Monky Wards, 36 inch deck. 6 speed Belt trans. Plow for winter.

Other dinosaur I have is a 70's Cub Cadet. It has hydro-drive, 52 inch deck. 1 cyl Kholer 16 hp motor. Lotta attachments to it. 36 inch Snow thower, roto-tiller,ect. My house.

You can't beat the hydro-drives. 42 to a 46 inch cut will make your work done faster. Going from a 14 hp to a 21? Man, RRRR, more power!!! Best part about Sears. You break a part or need tune up stuff. 20 years later they still carry it.

I see in the pic you have a belt drive trans that you plck the gears on the side. On my Monkey Wards. Every year I have to back it up on car ramps to get under it to spray WD40 or BBblaster on every movable part. It's garaged kept in the winter. The blade engauge just moves an arm to let the spring pull back the deck against spring tension.

Get under it, spray away. Work the engauge arm. Jmho. What model do you have?

oneeyejack, yours looks like the YTS3000, which would be the next step up from mine. I got the LT2000.
It seemed to have decent reviews, besides my old tractor was at least 6 or 7 years old, so anything at this point would be an improvement.

    HI!!
    I have 21.HP 42" Mower
    Electric Start
    Automatic Transmission
    Model No. 917.28922
My wife does the mowing and we hire the weed eating. Over 40 years of smoking and 6 months of chemo 7 years ago did a number on my lungs, so I'm not worth much. I had a Murray before this Sears. It was 10 years old and it was getting hard to get parts for it.;)

Hi locodave!! Yes it has belt drive trans. The belt already jumped off the pulley one time. It took me for ever to find the problem. It went above the pulley and was hard to see. I got lucky and found the problem. Was about ready to take it back. It's hard for my wife to engage the blades, but she likes the auto trans.

That must be the YT3000 or equivalent.

I've never smoked, but unfortunately, I too have cancer. Been through
the radiation, chemo and eventually had 1/2 my left lung removed.
Now, I'm starting up chemo again for 2 new tumors, 1 in each lung.

There is no way that I'm buying a new toy and not getting to play with it.

We have a local Amish girl that does the weed whacking for us and her family makes baked goods that are out of this world.

Apple pies that are unlike anything I've ever tasted. :drool
Need to give her a call real soon.

No more chemo for me. Once was enough. Won't go into details about side effects and after effects, I wish you the best my friend. I will be thinking about you. Cancer is a mean SOB. I wish you well.

You are more than welcome to come over and mow our yard. It's only 20 acres!! :-D:-D

I appreciate the offer, but I'm just a smidge under 2 acres and that pretty much takes all the energy that I have and then some.;):-D

Well, we do have a real tractor, but the cost of gas is killing us. I will be needing to drive to the "Big City" every day for the next week or so and that alone will be close to $200 in gas. :(

We rent, so the person who we rent from cuts the grass.

Before we moved, though, our old house had about 2.5 acres (non-wooded) and I had to push mow the entire thing. It sucked, but it also built up some rugged leg and arm muscle.

Added another new toy to the mix: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_07174381000P?prdNo=14&blockNo=14&blockType=G14

With my current health condition, I'm looking to make life as easy as possible.

I usually get a new weed whacker every 2 years or so. The problem, is that with 2 bad shoulders, I can't get the things to start. So I opted for the rechargeable.
I have 1 daughter still at home and she will use the tractor, but nobody will weed whack. We've been paying to get it done, but with the current financial situation, We gonna have to get back to maintaining our own lawn.

Luckily, we just had a yard sale, I sold one of my old weed whackers and came up with the money for the cordless.

    Man, it's tough getting old.

Burning_Monkey, better you than me. Too much work for me to handle.

I'm like a little kid waiting for X-mas morning, anticipating that new tractor being delivered this Friday.
Meanwhile, I fired up the new weed whacker yesterday and it is the coolest thing that I have ever used.
If I had any clue that there were battery operated weed whackers, I would have got one years ago.
As I said before, I have 2 bad shoulders and starting weed whackers and push mowers get me worn out before I even begin.
I was contemplating getting a self propelled mower also, for the spots where the tractor won't quite reach, but maybe I've spent enough this year.
We can probably get by with the tractor and weed whacker.

It is just going to be so nice to have all new stuff. Something that works like it should.
With my current health condition, I need all the help I can get.

I'm actually looking forward to yard work this season, with my new toys.:celebrate

The doctors say I need the exercise, sunlight and fresh air and I'm ready to rock.:cool

Nothing like a 15 foot mower to make quick work of a yard. Although turning around in the corners is a bit hard.

I'm sure my < 2 acres is a postage stamp compared to what you have to mow.

I loathe yard work, but with being out on disability, I not only need something to do, but could use the fresh air.

Also, excited with the new toys. Nothing I love more than something that actually works the way it's supposed to.

    I love new! :celebrate
