I have a Gateway M320 that was brought to me today by my sister for a sound issue....

It had more errors on it then the Baltimore Orioles had last season. So I decided to format the hard drive to attempt to kill 2 birds 1 rock (sound & errors).. Well, I installed windows XP home and all the errors went away. However, I still have NO SOUND

I did the Dr PC test and it said No Audio Device.. So, I open up the device manager and seen there are Yellow ? marks and ! marks under "other devices" and there's an X intell sub controller device.. (SEE IMAGE BELOW) of my device mgr.. "imaged marked devmgr"

I then tried the re-installing drivers on EACH one via the wizard and no luck. I even tried with the driver CD.. (see image below marked dev-1)

I then tried going to start, programs, volume control and got a error message saying "No active Mixer device avalible" (see image below marked dvm-3)

I just finished installing ALL or most of the "Windows Updates" (because I formated the HD with the new XP Home)

Thanks in advance for ANY help
    Kind Regards

    Hi

Great info cheers, wish many more where like you and your informative post, but try the below

Install the Chipset drive HERE and reboot do reboot as it finalises the chipset install.

Then install the following in this order

    Audio
    VGA
    Modem
    Wireless LAN

I'd likely reboot after each driver install to make sure they install ok, and when finished let us know how things are going and if you have any other yellow ! marks in device manager.

Its possible a service may not be running for audio so run this fixit HERE in case after the above its not.

    Hi Mr David.
Thanks for the reply, about 2am I found the chipset & audio drivers and installed and my sound is back..

I just got your post on the links as well.. I used your VGA, Lan, and modem, driver links. I installed them as you said 1 by 1 restarting each time and all the YELLOW ? & ! are GONE

I now have sound and no conflicts. Im a happy camper
    Thank You
