Intel Active Monitor crashed my pc?

I REALLY hope that Major Geeks drops this one. It crashed my Dell too in a big way. It won't boot into normal because it tries to finish installing this crappy software package. If I boot to safe mode, it doesn't show up as an installed program to uninstall, nor does it show up in 'start', 'programs' - so where the heck is it? It apparently hasn't finished installing and is continuing to try to finish that install. This is like a virus or malware nightmare and more folks will likely be injured by it than helped so please MG, dump it from the lineup of available software.

Can I ask you why you decided to download and install a program that was made over 5 years ago?

And then complain on a thread that's over 4 years old?

    Moved from old thread!

The Intel active Monitor works for the Intel Desktop boards it was designed for and as always a user should see if its compatible (link is the author one of the app on the download page) with their Windows version and motherboard, I have an old Intel Desktop board that this software works with still (runs XP as the OS) so its a viable old app to still list.

Maybe we do need to add a warning as to checking if its compatible with your Intel Desktop board, and it only works with Intel made boards it was designed for (as per specific chipsets) and not with motherboards that have Intel chipsets.

Just for curiosities sake what motherboard make and model do you have?

I changed the system requirements and made a note however when you treat a large brand board like Dell or Gateway as a standard Intel board you have to remember they might have modified the board. Typically you should stick to the tools offered by Dell for the system with a few exceptions like drivers.

Point is taken. Just good for folks to know that because they have an Intel processor, they're not 'good to go' with that particular package. Intel Active Monitor will crash down a Dell (+ others most likely) just as if it were a bad virus or malware. My XPpro Dell is still not out of the woods as I look for this startup "bug". I've been searching for details on removing it from the registry in safemode but so far, am not finding a lot of useful information.

Just as good a question is why was the software still available after so long and as to the thread, the threat clearly still exists so may as well post symptoms or issues for others who get trapped by this issue, don't you think?

Don't know, but it's not Intel. I read elsewhere of another guy with the exact same machine crashing down because of "Intel Active Monitor" - thought I'd be safe because I have an Intel processor and NEVER expected it to react as it did (it would be bad enough if it just didn't work because of the incompatibility but for it to crash down as it has, wow - travesty). I don't know off hand what MB I have, just that it's a stock Dell Dimension 8400 w/XPpro on it.

Can you post the Dell Service Tag of your machine and list the problems you had prior to you seeking out the Intel Active monitor, please?

    Hi

As you have a Dell, you do not have a Intel Desktop Motherboard as its likely a hybrid of a ASUS, MSI board that they generally use, Intel Desktop boards are not used in OEM machines.

Having an Intel CPU or chipset sadly doesn't mean you can use applications from Intel like this one, I know more information should be available not just on Majorgeeks, (and I dee Tim AKA Major Attitude has added a note after I emailed him on this very subject earlier, so we do take this seriously) but on the makers sites.

Its crashed badly as the code that the app is looking for off the Intel Desktop boards is not present, so will cause application failure and possibly BSOD as the hardware is not compatible with the app.

I hope that satrow and maybe myself and others can help you in what your original issues where before using the application if you had any.

    <snip>

I took a look at the Intel site hoping to see this problem. If I had an idea as to what registry data to look for, I'd be happy to manually remove it. Machine boots part way and then screen goes black and power button on monitor turns from green to orange. Once the box has been powered down by force (press and hold green lighted power button), you start the machine back up and a fan is racing and never slows back to normal. Also at this point, the box power is on but on orange and not green as the fan races away - doesn't appear to be anything powered but the fan at that point. To get to safemode, you must UNPLUG the box for a minimum of 15 minutes. Then and only then, the box comes back up in normal mode although, if you let it boot normally, the whole cycle will repeat itself. And BTW, I saw this 'precise' symptom given by another Dell Dimension 8400 owner so it's not unique to my situation here.

Given there is no program to uninstall and it doesn't show anywhere, manual registry key removal seems to be a solution. Question is, what keys. Also, the program never really seemed to fully install. As I recall, it was into the installation process when the monitor went black and that was that.
