IBM Thinkpad upgrade

I do volunter for a senior center and I am tring to upgrade thier IBM thinkpad T30-2366. Can someone tell me if I can swap out the proccessior, ram and harddrive. I wanted to just plug and play the upgrades. And when I change the harddrive can I transfer the operating system to an external harddrive and then load it back on the new harddrive. Thanks

Your hdd is slow and has small capacity , your hdd is Parallel ATA 40 gb 4200 Rpm 2,5 inch , you need a disk with more capacity and more quickly like this
