Why can't we organize by rating?

In every category on MajorGeeks I see we can sort the downloads by Name | Date | License | OS | Popularity]............Why not by Rating? Or even by Pick?

I suggest we add two new ways to sort the programs......Rating and Pick.

    Any votes?

Not sure if that is possible. You could try emailing Tim ( M.A. ).

Remembering back to some previous thread discussions, I don't think MA puts much stock in user ratings as a lot of people rate things based on bias or past experience of products that are no longer relevant as products go through changes, both good and bad.

Maybe I am oversimplifying, but I always considered popularity to be a good indication of a good program.

I mean - if a program is popular with folks, then I feel like I should give it a run. To be honest, I also check the rating . . . but if it is listed as a popular download for a while I'm still gonna give it a shot even without a high user rating.

I can see the logic against it, though. AOL was very popular, and so is Norton. ;) LOL

I was just thinking about that. I do actually find that many times when more than 100 people rate 4.5 or better that the program is more likely to out perform programs with 1000 people rating 3.0 or lower. There is a thin line between usefulness and use less. But unless we are talking about the programs with 100k downloads or more, the ones in the 10k crowd don't seem to have quite than same consistent ratings.

I have thought of the same thing.

    OK - plus 1.

This brings another question to mind.
    How are the PICKS selected?

Yep, that's HOW they get to be so popular. ;):-D

    Agreed.

But ratings can also be very misleading without being able to see accompanying comments.
Just a few One Star ratings can really mess up an otherwise very Good average.
Some people give a poor rating because They didn't install properly, Or they didn't read the
program description thoroughly and so expected something from the program that wasn't part of the design.

I agree and that ratings are just that a rating and should not be taken as a definitive rating of an app at all, I feel personally ratings are like food and art critics, a pile of crapola! they are not worth a second glance as what may work for one may not work for another, so its your choice to adopt an app or not.

For instance I use and have and iPhone and iPod Touch and use iTunes as you have to with these apps as my favoured app Songbird doesn't support them, BUT I now have an HTC HD7 Windows Mobile 7 phone that uses ZUNE as the backend app and it for me destroys iTunes for ease of use and stability, but that's my opinion and maybe full of doggy doo doo, you takes your choice.
