I have Win XP SP3 and its a bit slow from time to time, the cause of this problem I think is that the Use of CPU from the task manager shows that it is constantly around 70%, when no programs are running it goes to 45%, but never reaches 0%.

The process that seems to use most of the CPU is called "csrss.exe", it uses about 23% to 38%, but for some reason there is other 10 or 50% being used elswere.

If csrss.exe is located in your system other than in your Windows/System32 folder, you need to let the Malware folks take a look at your system. Csrss.exe is a notorious trojan and has numerous mutations.

I've already checked that by typing search on the Start menu and the only file is the one on system32, is there another way of searching that file on another location.

I have also runned the malware procedure from this site and was recomended to check in this section since all the logs were clean.

By any chance, is it showing up in your startups? If so, uncheck it and reboot the computer. I've heard everything from bad mouse drivers to corrupt profiles can cause csrss.exe to go spastic.

How do I uncheck it, do you mean that I open the task manager and click on end process and then reboot?

From time to time when bootin I do get a message that the mouse is not recognized, this happens before the windows logo. After that display it shows the option to reboot, I choose it and then it restarts normaly.

I also get an error saying something like no Intel OS found, again right before the WinXP logo, but I just choose the reboot option and goes back to normal.

I've been checking the task manager and seen that the processes that are active do not make up rof 70%.

    The ones I see are:
    csrss.exe 30% approximately, the lowes I've seen is 22%, highest 42%.
System 15%, the lowest is about 4%, highest 17%.
Inactive system process 40%, the lowest is about 21% and highest 46%.

That comes around 50%, so there is another 20% of cpu use from somewhere else, I have no malwere, so what other solutions could there be.

How can I re-instal the mouse drivers, if I delete the mouse one, does the mouse stop working?

I have a microsoft mouse connected to the computer with hi cpu use, for some time the mouse didnt respond or gave errors about the keyboard or mouse while booting.

Found the problem, its a Wireless LAN adapter. Its running in the lower right corner of the screen, when I close the program the use of cpu goes down to 0%-2%.

I also deleted and old user account in this computer, but I would recomend that as the last option if the problem persists.

The program that caused the problem has this information:

    Device
Device Name: IEEE 802.11g Wireless Cardbus/PCI Adapter
    Regulatory Domain: ETSI
    Driver Version 3.1.0.19
    Firmware Version 300.51.35.31015

    Wireless LAN Configuration Utility
    Version: 2.0.8.300

Im uninstalling this program since I can connect to the internet with the default program on windows xp.

Thanks for all the help guys and have a nice day.

I forgot to post, but the program name is "wireless configuration utility hw.51".

I uninstalled it but it also removed the windows connection manager program, I assume the best solution is to install it and then close the program so it doesnt overload the use of cpu.
