We called her Sophie. Our cat, who only made it six years, and died because we didn't know how sick she was. Two days listless and not eating, but she'd still purr when we'd pay her attention. By the morning of the third day it was apparent thing weren't good. We took her to the vet. She was seriously jaundiced, and we didn't know to look in her ears for this. The vet said she was probably sick for longer than we knew. Cats hide it well. She didn't make it. I dug a spot in the pouring rain, in the back yard next to Mr Ying who died last fall at fifteen. Then we took a couple of days to get over it.
We're down to one cat now, Fenton who's starting to get lonely, to the point where he brought a little girlfriend home on the weekend. She's from the neighbourhood. I caught him showing her the basement. She casually strolled up the stairs and by me when I told her she couldn't be in the house.
If there's a plus to losing at cat it's the opportunity to adopt another one. They're always so different, and you never know what you're gonna get. Usually good.
    I'm sure Fenton won't care.

Awww, sorry to hear that man. Animals always hide their injuries as best they can be they cats or dogs etc.

Yeah I echo what Augie says Sibeer and loosing a family friend and companion is a great loss, wow neat pic and I just love the angle of the pic and the HUGE paw! and lazyness of the cat.... just sums up cats as a whole, they are effortless in how they portray themselves, stylish you may say.

A few years ago we lost 3 cats they same way,we thought they were sicks with a genetic disease but its turns out a neighbour had been poisoning them with anti freeze,a couple of other cats in the neighbourhood died this way too and I believe the guy in question who was doing it because the cats were scaring off the birds in his garden has been dealt with.

Its strange the way they purr even though they are sick, the purring is just to get attention.

    Very sad.

It's always like losing a family member when a cat or dog passes away. Had a health scare with my cat recently, but she seems to have gotten over whatever it was.
True that they do often hide most of their symptoms, or is it just that we don't always know what to look for. ~ Wishing you all the best for the future.

The vet said she could've eaten something. I don't think we have any nasty people in our neighbourhood, but you never know. I'll be watching for incidences of other pet deaths around here.

    Thanks guys.

So sorry to hear of your loss.:cry Many (non pet owners) don't fully comprehend the bond between animals and their humans. The dogs/cats ARE family members and when their time comes, the devastation cuts deep.

It is nice to hear Fenton has found himself a lady friend. And in the normal way of cats...they are going to do as they please....they are king & queen of their domain. LOL

Thanks Abby. My wife has located a potential kitten already. It'll be available in a few weeks if we want it.

    Wenchie I R teh brat

    Sorry for your kitty :(

My brother actually went through something similar. Several weeks ago their kitty, Anna, disappeared entirely. This cat had never left the house before. Yesterday (or the day before) My step dad saw her in the backyard, by the river, just sitting there crying.

She was covered in open wounds that were so badly maggot infested the vet couldn't see what even made them... She was so fragile and in so much pain there was no choice but to put her down. He's autistic and he's taking it very very hard.

It's so horrible when a pet we care about gets sick or hurt, or even dies without warning. We always wish and wonder if we could have done something differently to save them, but life had other plans.

I hope your family recovers from her loss soon, and always remembers her fondly.

Thanks Wenchie. We won't ever forget her, but what your brother went through was so much worse with injuries like that and not knowing why she suffered so much. Somedays you just want a do-over.
