What would you save if your house was on fire?

Interesting to check out the various photos.
Hardly an electronic device amongst them. :confused

Me, I'd take my laptop, Sierra Leone photo album and my 2 CD/DVD storage albums. (about 400 CD/DVD's without hard cases or paper covers)

How about you? What would you save first?

Laptop, 1911A1, at least one of the carbines, and clothes and $. I don't have pets right now, so that simplifies things.

LP's, PC and laptop if there's time.
My wife, if she can't get out by herself. (She drinks);)
    Cats, regardless of time.

This is scary similar to my list... :-D

    1. The Guy, if he needs my help to get out.
    2. Cats.
    3. Laptop
    4. Phone
    5. Purse (has wallet, phone charger, and car keys)

idk it looks like they all saved a camera, a phone, or a laptop. How come only one person thought their pets were worth saving???

I'd have to save my computer, that's where all the pictures of my babies are. And the stack of papers I need to put my life back together.. but that's it, the rest of this junk can burn.

This is assuming all of the people are safely out of the house.

Cause I don't have a pet anymore Wenchie. Of course, if I had one, it would be grabbed first. ;)

TimW told me he would carry me out of the fire "Officer and a Gentleman" style.

But I would have started the fire just to get you out!!! :-D:-D

The laptop because it has pictures of all my projects through the years and my disk wallets,I'd let my gaming computer burn and get a new one from the insurance even though its only a few months old.

Everything else can burn as far as I'm concerned, ohhhhh! I have a custom t-shirt I made 15 years ago,I still wear it often and I'm seeing how long I can keep it.

    Yup rest is junk.

I'd carry Debra Winger out if she magically hasn't aged in 20 years,if she has then then I'd enjoy the flames eating a few Debra Wings.

Money, possessions, material things mean nothing to me. Family and friends are what's important to me. I would make sure they were all safe, and then I would save my cat.;)

Never thought about this, but my computer is a desktop, so don't think I'd be able to disconnect all the cables
and then lug the thing out.

I'd probably grab some backup disks (computer code), prescription meds and definitely my Cymbals.

  16. Wenchie

    Wenchie I R teh brat

Yea, mine is a desktop too. I would rip everything out of the tower and save the tower. I just want the pics. I might just invest in an external harddrive so I can save that instead.

But as long as these are out:
    I'm Good.

I think the first thing I would go for would be the fire extinguisher :-D

After that the obvious such as my cats, then pretty much anything I consider important on my way out, it's not like I'm going to have a check list of "Things To Save while surroundings are burning to the ground"
Although I think in material things I would try my best to save my girls needlework designs since they are irriplacable in many ways.
I'd like to save my digital memories too if possible.

Would also be a good idea to grab insurance papers and personal ID.

If you use a web based email like Gmail or Yahoo, you can scan your insurance and other documents and email them to yourself. If it comes down to it, you can access your important info from a friend's house or the local library. :major

A good idea but worth dying for? :-D

"Quick get the kids out honey I'll get the insurance papers!" Runs into office and opens files. "Now then insurance?...E,F,G,H,I I I, 2009, last years ahh this years! Cough! Cough! "Right honey I'm coming, ahhh my leg its on fireeee!" "Damn this ones for the car!One sec honey."

"Now House insurance E,F,G,H H H 'cough Cough!' My arm it burns it burns!" :-D

  23. Nedlamar

    Nedlamar MajorGeek

Oh come on Rikky, you mean your papers aren't exactly where you know they are? :-D

@Fred... It's funny, I was going to reply very sarcastically, something very similar to Rikky's post about sitting there scanning and emailing stuff to your email as the house burns down around you :-D

Realistically speaking, how small my house is, if it caught on fire I probably wouldn't bother saving anything, on the other hand if it started upstairs I would probably be able to get everything including the furniture out before the fire got downstairs or the cieling falls in lol

  24. Fred_G

    Fred_G Heat packin' geek

Ned, I meant to scan and email the stuff to yourself BEFORE the fire, like a precaution. Then while your house is burning down around you, you will have more time to franticly call insurance companies to get fire insurance for your home. :-D:-D

  25. Wenchie

    Wenchie I R teh brat

You do know you don't actually need your paperwork... THEY have it. It's just FYI paperwork. All you need to know is the name of the company and look up their claims number when the fire is over :p

SO not worth dying for. (Former Licensed NYS Insurance Agent, worked as a national Help desk/front lines underwriter) Just get your butt out of there, and let your Insurance company find the rest.

The initiative and put the bloody fire out.

Of course I'm out here in the boonies so waiting on the fire department would see half the county burned to the ground.

Unlike TimW i would leave the "Cake" ......:-D:-D, and like Wenchie it would be the laptop and the tower (wouldn't bother unplugging, just rive it out :-D) for those precious photo's, I'd be heartbroken if i lost those :cry:cry

Oh yeah, spoken like a true insurance sales person, we lose the paperwork in the fire and you guys have some "Technical Issues" and before you know it, you own nothing, no one is giving you any money, your identity is gone and you have to go on the run to avoid being caught by those guys in the suits driving an Escalade.

I've seen this kind of thing happen many times in movies, which of course means it's perfectly possible it would happen to me.

  29. Wenchie

    Wenchie I R teh brat

Yes, because movies are so the way things work. Besides, I wasn't in sales, i was in support. Peddling the crap was someone else's problem, making it work and directing people who were actually IN the above situation to the claims department so they can get help was mine. :p

I am one of those weirdos that have actually thought about this and planned it out in my head LOL

(note: I don't have any animals or kids, so no need to put those in my plannings LOL)

1st - grab the lappy bag (with lappy).
2nd - grab box of pictures.
3rd - got most of my clothes hanging up on one of these...
    http://garment-racks-slatwall-gridwall.com/mm5/graphics/00000001/rolling-rack-z-lg.jpg
grab it and roll it out the door and on the way grab the bin of shoes by door (because I can not forget the shoes :-D )

I would save my file server with all my document backups on it, or at least the hard drives from it. The front case of the tower has broken and keeps falling off so removing the drives would be easy.

If there was time I would save my laptop & desktop but everything else is not important.
