Searching for an archive

I was looking for a specific file archive which I didn't know the name of on both Google and Yahoo.

80 percent or more of the hits I got had [ARCHIVE] added to the title whether it was about archives or not.

So how does one search for "archive" if they stick the word on everything in sight?

Certainly is going to make it difficult if you don;t know the name of the file. :(

What is the context of the file? What type of file: is it a computer file, paper, image, report, newspaper, museum artefact? What is the subject or contents of the file? Where have you seen the file before? Are there references, acknowledgements or citations to the file?

Actually it's much simpler than that. I'm not looking for "a file." I'm looking for an archive with a category of files. The category being MPG videos - simply because I need a few to make a test.

And believe me, searching for MPG isn't the way to go either. You get a lot about Hondas, Subarus, etc.

I said I was looking for a file archive, not a file. Please see my post of 17.39.

OK the same questions in my post apply with the word file replaced by archive.

However, I'm guessing you are looking for a generic collection (i.e., archive) of .MPG files to perform some test. For example, your "archive" could be a .ZIP file containing .MPG files. Or it could be a Windows Media Library of .MPG files. It could be a indexed list of URLs linking to .MPG files. There are so many different types of "archive" or collections of files, even if just .MPG files. It could be a bcakup "archive" or even a DVD archive of .MPG files.

Or perhaps you are looking for a means a indexing or categorising an "archive" of .MPG files?

What is the objective of the test? Is it to test that an .MPG collection still functions even when the categorised files are "archived" or stored on a web-site somewhere?

Look, I don't even know that there is such a thing as generic .MPG files. The whole video standards scene is way too complex for me.

The test is this. I installed a WMP plugin into FireFox. When I come across WMV files the plugin handles them. When I come across MPG files it jumps to the outside WMP application to play them. I want more files to find out if it always happens or only on specific files. (And while they normally seem to be around every corner I haven't come across one for some time.) Then I am supposed to send examples to a Firefox guy.

So this is why I was looking for an archive that simply has .MPG files.
