Hi, I hope I'm posting in the correct place, if not please advise where I should post.
I have a Dell Studio desktop PC running windows 7, IE9 and using windows live mail, awhile back and I can't be sure exactly when this began but I was using IE8 and had the same problems so downloaded 9 hoping for a 'fix'. I have checked and all of my windows updates are current. I use AVAST antivirus.... not sure what all I need to include about my system. If you need more info please ask.

The problem is whenever I try to print from IE or windows live I receive this error message and it will not print no matter what I do.

An error has occured with the script on this page
    Line 1527
    Char 1
    Error Invalid argument
    URL: res://ieframe.dll/preview.js

I've looked all over the web and have had no success in correcting this problem, am hoping someone here might know of a solution.

    Thanks!
    Jackie

can you go into command prompt and type the following:

    regsvr32 jscript.dll

    Try again?

Thanks, I did what you asked and it indicated it worked but it didn't seem to help. I tried printing and still get the same error.

Hrm, how about we try unregistering jscript first

    open command prompt, type:

    regsvr32 /u jscript.dll
    ENTER
    then type:
    regsvr32 jscript.dll

    Try again?

Did both of them and still get the script error when I try to print. Should I restart IE and try again?

Is it still a problem if you disable script debugging?

On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.

On the Advanced tab, click to clear the Display a notification about every script error check box, and then click OK.

    yes try that

You could also try disabling the Avast! shields for 10 minutes before you try to print, it has a broad range of features and one of them may be interfering here.

What toolbars do you have installed in IE?

  9. ugavirules

    ugavirules Private E-2

Okay I turned off the Script Shields in avast for 10 minutes and I don't have any toolbars installed in IE (I don't think) My IE browser window has no toolbars, all of my shortcuts/links are pinned to the taskbar.

I attempted to print after stopping the avast, no luck. Also the display notification about every script error was not checked under the IE tools.

    Thanks for everyones help!

What version of Windows 7 do you have? You still have the problem printing in IE, correct?

Try it with ALL Avast! shields turned off.

Tried again with ALL of avast's scripts turned off, I still get the script error.
    I am running windows 7

    Sorry,
I meant if you are using Windows 7 32bit or 64bit. You might want to try a repair. If you are using Win7 64bit, you would use one of the following scripts shown here depending on which version of IE you are using. The scripts also work for IE9

    ie8-rereg.32on64.zip: for 32bit IE8 on 64bit Windows
    ie8-rereg.64on64.zip: for 64bit IE8 on 64bit Windows

For Win 7 32bit you would use.

    ie8-rereg.zip: for IE7/8 on 32bit-Windows

After you run the script, you should reset IE9 by doing the following.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Reset-Internet-Explorer-settings-in-Internet-Explorer-9

Okay, I did both and I still cannot print. Same script error.:cry:cry:cry

    another suggestion:

    try sfc /scannow

do this by going into command prompt (Start > run > cmd)

    then type : sfc /scannow
in the command prompt window. If there's mismatching files, it will prompt you for your Windows 7 install cd to pull the files from there.

If thisisu's suggestion of using scannow did not work, you might try this if you have the 64bit version. The last post in this thread suggested the following.

  18. ugavirules

    ugavirules Private E-2

Sfc scan reported that Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

I am running windows 7 32 bit operating system

    Sorry,
I need to be a little more clear on my last post.

    Run command prompt as administrator
right click on the Command Prompt icon and select "Run as administrator"
    then regsvr32 ole32.dll <enter>

if tgell's post doesn't work, can you try using IE8 again, instead of IE9.

To do this, you'd need to go into control panel > windows update > view update history > installed upates.

when you find it, highlight it and select Uninstall

I don't even have IE9 installed on my win7 machine anymore, cuz i was getting errors on some websites. Although MS probably won't admit it, IE9 still has some issues, especially on Windows Vista machines from what i've seen so far

It didn't just happen with IE9 it was happening with IE8 as well. I really can't pin point when it started happening but I 'think' it was after I installed windows live mail but I can't be sure. But I've removed Livemail and tried and the printer still will not work in IE. But I can print from Google Chrome...
Oh its a Dell All in one Printer and it prints from all programs on the pc except for IE and Windows live mail....
I did theregsvr32 Ole32.dll in the command promts and it made no difference, it did say it was successful but it didn't help with the printing.
Also in the device manager I don't have any yellow exclamation points or anything that seems 'out' of the ordinary that I can see.
Again thanks for all the ideas I'm willing to try anything to resolve this issue..

Well, you already stated, you set IE9 to defaults, with deleting all entries. Have you tried updating your printer driver? Or using an older version?

  25. ugavirules

    ugavirules Private E-2

No I've not tried that, so the drivers could be causing this even if it works in other programs?

I'll check dells site and update the driver...

I update the driver with the latest firmware and will restart and see if it works.... fingers crossed!

I would suggest one more thing and then I am out of ideas. Try creating a new user account, log into it and see if you can print.

I know, I've been so frustrated myself, really had hoped it was just a setting or something that could easily be fixed.. guess not.

I'll try creating a new profile and see if that works... just wish I knew what caused it to begin with.. ugh there are days computers are not my friend.. ;)

Thanks everyone whose tried to help me out... I do appreciate it!

Will let you know if the profile change works..

Try running in an elevated cmd prompt.

Click the "start" buttong, then type in cmd in the (search program files), right click and select run as administrator. Type in the following.

    regsvr32 actxprxy.dll

    Try printing now.

Odd, that my pics are not showing.

If you get "The module "actxprxy.dll" was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed.....", then you didn't run cmd as admin. Yes, even if you think you are the administrator on your computer, you still have to elevate cmd.

It was succesful but it didn't help.. still cannot print.
I've not had a chance to create a new profile, had out of town relatives in for the weekend and this is the first chance I've had to even try anything else. :( But will post back once I try the new profile...

Sorry for the delay... but finally created a new account and tried to print. Still no luck. I guess I will just have to live with it unless someone has other thoughts that might help.. Just not sure what else there is to try.... thanks again for all the help!! It is appreciated!

    Hello,
Sorry you did not get it to work. One more try. In an admin account.

    Run command prompt as administrator
right click on the Command Prompt icon and select "Run as administrator"

    Do the following in order.

    regsvr32 ole32.dll
    regsvr32 oleaut32.dll
    regsvr32 actxprxy.dll

    Good Luck

    Edit:
You can print inside another browser with no problem, correct?

Before you do the commands I listed in my previous post, check the following.

In your printer settings, make sure your margins are not set too low. They should be about .75 top and bottom, left and right. If not you may be trying to print out of range and getting the invalid argument.

  37. ugavirules

    ugavirules Private E-2

Yes I can print in Chrome and all other programs just not IE or Windows Live Mail.

Thanks, I did this and it didn't work seems nothing is going to.... oh well I guess I'm just stuck with no printing in IE or Windows mail.. which is will be a pain at times but I really am out of options... Thanks to everyone who has tried to help... I guess this thread can be closed unless someone thinks of something we haven't attempted... again appreciate the time you guys have took to try to help!!

I got one more suggestion, surprised I didn't mention it earlier. This one should reregister all those .dll files that we've tried so far, and more that we haven't had you try.

    Complete Internet Repair.

When you download and open it, ONLY put a checkmark in the "Repair Internet Explorer 8" (will probably have some decimal points after it)

    Then press GO

    OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG!
I can't believe this worked! I have been looking for a solution for MONTHS and just using Firefox or cut-and-paste. I suspect the problem has something to do with Win7 and my HP (1012) printer that is rigged b/c there is no Win7 driver for it. Anyway, THANK YOU!!! :drool

WOW! I have been chasing this since Windows 7 came out. I can't believe it actually works today (11/16/2011)! Thank you thisisu, great find. In my case I had given up on IE8 and moved on to IE9, which I ticked. Man this WORKED! I was reduced to copy and paste into MS Office Word, and printing from there. This is fantastic thisisu ! Great job!
