    Hi there!

I have had alot of issues with my PC that the people here believe is caused by an incompatibility issue with my motherboard/ram. I have decided to replace both.

My questions is, what special precautions do i need to take and how do i actually do it? Can i just unplug everything, put the new mobo and ram in, re-plug everything back in and off we go?

if not can i save the programs or files i have on my computer already?

Actually totally new question that may mean i can avoid this hassle.

My ram says timings are 8-8-8 at 1600Mhz, i just set dram to 1600mhz in Bios, set the timings to 8-8-8, but what should the last value be? i left it at 24 (should i change this or other values in bios?)

Try loosening the timings to 9-9-9-24 and see what happens. Mobo and RAM details would be be appreciated as we are flying blind here. Also, are you overclocking?

Not OC, but the timings were on 9-9-9-24 when the ram is meant to be 8-8-8. So now they are 8-8-8-24 i think. Also its an ASUS M4A87TD-USB3 mobo with two lots of 4gb sets (2x2gb) (so 8gb total) of 1600Mhz ddr3 Geil Black Dragon RAM

Basically i think the ram timings were causing the bluescreens that made we think about new ram/mobo. So can incorrect RAM timings cause BSODs?

Yes of course or bad RAM. I'd leave the timing at default in BIOS and test the RAM using Memtest86. What were the errors on the BSOD's.

One thing to keep in mind. The software industry, and for the sake of this discussion, Microsoft, defines the motherboard as the heart of the system and considers a new motherboard a new computer.

Therefore, unless you have a full "retail" version of Windows (and most people don't - they have OEMs) you cannot transfer your current Windows license to your new "computer".

The key exception here is when you replace the motherboard as part of a repair action because the first motherboard failed. In that case ALONE, you can transfer the OEM license to the new machine. HOWEVER - the replacement motherboard MUST be identical - the same brand and model number as the old board, or the manufactures replacement if the original is no longer in production. In other words, if your motherboard fails, you cannot legally "upgrade" the motherboard to something better and use the same license.

I am just the messenger. This is simple fact - and in your EULAs.

If it creates an incompatibility issue, sure. The actual BSOD error messages may help determine if that is the problem. If you are overclocking, stop until this is resolved.

Go to this thread where i listed all my bluescreens in posts.

Also i adjusted the timings in bios from default to what they are meant to be - i havent had a bsod in 2 days yet but i have had one or 2 wierd things happen

like a BSOD, the sound would cut out and the screen would go black (once it went purple just today) and the PC would still be running but i couldnt do anything.

What could cause that kind of error? Maybe it is the mobo?

also if i were to replace it would that mean id have to zero my HD?
