    Hi Oma

I always cringe when a company that deals is much varied software takes over one of the smaller really neiche great players in a specific market, the apps tend to go downhill (ZoneAlarm is one such case for me), I hope it does'nt and stays both a free and paid for Pro version, but time will tell.

Plus personally professing to be a leading "cloud" provider switches me off as while I love and would promote Cloud services and I do use a few, I do not think Cloud bases apps are viable 100% yet, and certainly not for security as the worlds internet is not perfect yet, in most counties its still too slow to deal with Cloud based apps, and the UK is in that group of not having fast or stable enough internet to trust your PC security to a cloud based app.

    Hi David,

There seem to be so many AV's and many other apps etc. that are stored in the cloud nowadays. Not so good when unable to connect I suppose. Loss of data and hacking of stored info in the cloud/servers may be more rampant than keeping the info yourself on backups. Is webmail considered to be in the cloud?

I'd rather stay out of the clouds. I don't like this one bit ATM but as David said, we'll see.:( Especially by a site called support.com. I don't know them but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

Yes, if its "online" then the buzzword is these days that its "in the cloud", so its not new we have been using the "cloud" for many many years!

The true cloud apps I think of are the things like Google Docs, Office Online, Some antivirus apps (but I'm not trusting of them, unless your locality has damn good internet connection) Googles new netbook OS is partly in the Cloud, so have to see where that one goes. We could be too reliant on the internet and this "cloud" and it may rain on us!

Me too, as much as possible anyway. SAS has been working on a version 5 beta since Oct 2010 and was/is taking so long that I thought - hey what's going on? Now we perhaps know the answer as to why. See the link about when the beta 5 started: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=285536

Those are my feelings too. I'd rather rely on myself rather than trying to figure out what went wrong 'in the cloud'. With all the red flags up ATM about security, I ain't touching it any time soon.

That's what I thought about webmail. And yes, rain or a hurricane if one isn't careful. Especially with so many hacks lately. E.g. rather type in my passwords manually than having them stored as in lastpass etc.

Guess we will have to watch this space but I tend to agree with David's opinion on this. :(

Hey SAS may stay the great app it is now and one I love, past experience tells my gut otherwise, but hell I'm open to being told "see you where wrong" in a years time, when the app under new ownership has had time to mature.

Just to finish off my thoughts, I'm happy that the developer(s) got paid for their hard work and hope that they have a say where SAS will go, like free and paid or if they even care ATM. Who knows.
