Just started having a problem with my computer CD burner. I'm trying to burn a few songs on one CD, and photos on another, but neither will burn. It just stays "dormant" after I click "burn all files onto CD." Also, my WindowsMediaPlayer will not burn the music, and neither will RealPlayer. Looked into devices manager and all things related to CD driver seem to be ok. I downloaded music off Amazon.com ok, and the songs play on my computer, but won't burn. I have an E-Machines computer with Windows XP Service Pack II. Thanks for any help.

Maybe the burn laser is dead, have you tried it another machine? I've had dead burners with no warning from the OS that anything was wrong, they just didn't work.

Thanks for the info! That could be a definite possibility. When I insert a new disk, it starts to make the noise like its loading, then goes thru all the steps, but fails to burn. I've inserted several new disks, thinking maybe one or two might have been bad, but its always the same result. Unfortunately, I don't have another burner on another computer. My E-Machine computer is only about 2 years old (or just under), do you think it would burn out that fast?

Thank you all very much for your help! Especially Falcon. I downloaded the program and ran it. It said that something was wrong with my CD writer. However, I have about 4 or 5 different CD writing programs, but had only tried 3. I next tried NERO and it actually worked! I was very surprised, considering that the Microsoft program told me something was wrong with my disc writer. I tested the CD on another player I have, and it definitely recorded the songs. My computers have always been very weird like this, for some unknown reason.
