Re: A big congrats to our own DavidGP

Laura thank you for starting the thread, I know I hijacked one of yours and Chas slapped my typing finger for it ;)

But thank you all for the congrats and a well deserved congrats to Charlie (Chaslang) and Nick (NickADSLUK) for both being re-awarded this honour again for the selfish dedication and free time in your busy lives you devote to helping others with the knowledge you have gained, its good to share and its the one thing that keeps me going.

To those that don't know the Microsoft MVP Program was setup to reward those tireless members of the public who give their free spare time to help others in the community, be that internet or physical, in keeping Microsoft products as in Windows, Office, Security, Media going without issue.

There at only 4000+/- recipients of this award worldwide (looks great on a resume) and its done yearly so not a perpetual thing, so you do have to be on top of your game always and catch the attention of senior folk at Microsoft, to become a MVP read this HERE as being a Microsoft MVP does not mean you are in the payment or pocket of Microsoft, as most MVPs are or can be very critical of Microsoft at times on specific applications, this voice that we have can sway the development of an application to what is more like the general community would like. MVPs have played a great role in shaping Windows as we know it now and for one I can say "Windows 7 was my idea" or a specific part or changes where.

Ideas from the Windows 7 beta, may even find their way into Windows.next as the development teams for various components of Windows do listen when the argument is objective, so if you wish to shape the next versions of Microsoft applications, join the likes of Microsoft Connect and have your voice heard by the development teams on a products over just moaning on a forum, blog or in real life on an app..... join in and see if your ideas make a difference.

I basically started out on MS Connect for XP beta and others then have been involved in the techbeta (which is by invite) to many apps and you get to shape those apps, and dealing on forums, mainly our own Majorgeeks and that sparing of my freetime for over 10+ yrs gained me my 1st MVP award 5yrs ago.... I don't work directly in IT and MVPs do not have too to gain this award.

Folks like Kestrel, TimW, satrow, thisisu, plodr, iain.t etc all are potential Microsoft MVPs of the future, many of you I have not singled out, mainly as I forget all names too many to single out, can make a change, just have to know what you are talking about and seek to expand the applications we have now.

@TimW.... head swelling has gone down today, think the Merlot has seeped out of the head ;)

@Bazza... well yeah the "halo" was a good avatar name to use and one I had used for over 10yrs but I decided on a change and used my name and some initials, I kinda lost my "halo" it slipped off ;)

@iain.t, thanks and you are doing damn good in the area of drivers, that's an area that normally not looked at in depth, but is crucial to keeping a PC going, which is why I dedicate a lot of time to driver issues. I have to say the driver area of this forum is not a main concern of mine these days as I know you and others as in satrow etc cover drivers also and do so with such expertise and spot on information.

@all others thanks for the congrats and for your dedication into making Majorgeeks a great place, folks like Augie, Phantom (Barry), lbmest, Bill our bionic Belgian make this a fun place to just share knowledge and chill out.

You have helped so many people.
And the articles in the malware section prepared by Chaslang, Nick and others are a golden resource.

I don't know how David is able to produce such a prodigious amount within the forums, 'cause I know he has a heavy duty Real job and I suppose also A Life.

Many thanks friends for the congrats :)
One of the great things about receiving the MVP award is that it enables me to invite the senior management at Microsoft to look in on us and to see a thriving community that's on the ball and not like so many forums today in a period of stagnation.

A successful forum is the key and in having and building a worldwide community takes many forms but the most important are the members along with an engaging staff at the end of the day as without a solid membership you end up with very little

So keep up the good work friends :)

I want to offer my congrats once again also. I also want to thank our co-founder Major attitude; who also has the honor of being a Microsoft MVP, and without him this forum would not be here for all of us to enjoy. Thanks Tim. I would also like to add this, Even MVP's can learn new things.:cool;)
