While I was looking at Windows Photos I had uploaded, I deleted one I didn't want. Now that full-size image is on my desktop and I can't seem to delete it.

    Any suggestions?

If you click on "start" then "control panel" then "appearance and personalization"
Then you will see "change desktop background" and in there you get a lot of pictures and backgrounds to choose from, just click on one you like and "save" then it's done.

Thanks, Bill. But what if I don't want a background picture, just the icons I choose to put there?

I clicked on the photo and the rest of my icons disappeared. The only way I can get anywhere is through Start, All Programs. I want those icons back.

Anyone want to bet on how far I can throw this computer?

Any idea how I can get my icons to reappear, even if I have to put up with that stupid photo?

Solved the issue of lost icons. No need to go to Control Panel, etc., just right click on a blank area of the desktop and click on Restore Desktop Icons.

But the blasted photo is still here. I guess I'll have to live with it.

If you just want a plain background, when you are in "change desktop background" you just need to scroll down and you will find a pallet of plain colors.

I don't want to change the background. I have a plain background and I am happy with the colour.

In the middle of Desktop there is a photo of a window that I need to get rid of. It takes up a lot of space and my icons are crowded around it. There is no option to get rid of the photo.

I don't know what your OS is but in XP when I want to change the Desktop background (wallpaper) there are 3 options under the title 'Position' these are 'Stretch' and 'Tile' and 'Center'
If you have 'Center' selected then the background color will remain the same plus the photo will appear in the center of the screen and be the same size as it normally is.
I guess Vista and Win7 have a similar 'Position' option?

If 'Center' is selected then you might have accidentally selected the image to be your Background.
Scroll to the top of the Background image list and select 'None'

If that doesn't fix it then posting a screenshot of your desktop would show what it looks like.
In case you need the info, here is how to take a screenshot @

XP is wonderful and user friendly. Vista is not. I have none of those options.

I don't think a screen shot would help anything. The photo is large, shows a window. I deleted it because it added nothing to the folder I was compiling. That's when it appeared on Desktop. Al attempts to remove it have failed and, at one point, I lost all my icons.

Can you "right click" the photo and open file location and at least you will know where it is and you can try to delete the file containing it.

I can't open the file location because the photo has been deleted.

Great! Thank you. That link worked after a bit of work around. The photo is gone.

    Many Thanks.

I ran Combofix and now I have a fancy background on my monitor that I do not want.

How do I get back to a plain background?

    Okay, found it.

Bill already told you in post number two. And I doubt Combofix was responsible for putting a funky background on your desktop.

EDIT - I See you managed it....
