I found a Motherboard for this Gateway. It brand new factory numbers all match blah blah blah.. Comes with a 30 day money back for ANY reason & 120 day warranted. Shipped to my door $45 so I ordered it...

Since we assumed both the motherboard and "both" ram chips were bad I ordered a 1g chip. I got the 1g chip in today. I open the box, and there's two 1g chips. 1 is buffered and 1 is unbuffered. Whats the difference and what should I use?
    Thanks

Question on Motherboard part number. After 13 days I get the Motherboard for this Gateway Notebook. They sent me 2 dell replacement speakers.rolleyes

So I'm back to square one. Need to order a motherboard. My question is this, I have a "Gateway" part number 103501

Most have 2 different "motherboard Numbers" 40-A07500-C1B0
    AND 40-A07500-CB00

Is this the same thing. I don't have the unit here so I cant get the number off the board. It seems like 40-A07500-C1B0
    AND 40-A07500-CB00
are that of the same. Can anyone confirm this?
    Thanks

Closest I could come up with is to read a couple of the full disassembly threads in this page.

He doesn't do a full disassembly on your model but similar models might give you an idea of what to look for in terms of hidden screws and that type of thing.

    Yup,

I looked at one disassembly and it did not look fun. (I haven't taken apart a laptop in 10 years--but I remember and it doesn't look much different today. Lots of tiny, flimsy BREAKABLE pieces. :( )

I'll keep looking for something specific--but the usual sources don't seem to do Gateway.

Well, I finally got the motherboard in.. I installed the "refurbished $50" motherboard ("what a DEAL!") and it works perfect. It was quite an easy repair (with the illustration page sach2 provided)....

I have an issue :( the "Mouse" or "aka touch pad") does NOT work at all. I am using a usb mouse now. I downloaded the drivers from gateway and also from the publishers web site. It's a "Synaptics"....

The touch pad did work prior to installation of the motherboard. I'm sure its possible that I did not inset a wire in tight enough or something. However, I don't recall what it looked like inside or if it plugs in to something. (I wish I had an inside look at it I could recall it) however, I cant find an incase image of it.. :(

I was hoping it was a click of a box or a driver issue (for an easy fix) I am sure its good as it worked before I put in the motherboard..

    Any suggestions?

    Hi,

Does it show up in Device Manager--any yellow question marks there?
Did the drivers install without an error message?

Just woke up. 4:am (never take apart the notebook before sunrise)... I opened the keyboard and "wahla" The cable ribbon slipped off... Plugged it back in and it works great.

So for only having 40 post and $50 in the notebook, I simply give it back to brother in law for his b-day next week (and make my wife pay for it) ..

    Thanks for all your help.

After installing a new "motherboard", "ram upgrade" , and wireless network card, (see image of the 3 items below) on this Gateway MX3562 and installed XP Pro it ran just fine. I had a "Linksys ver 3.0 Wireless Plug in Netword Card" (see image below) on hand here and simply installed the software and the "Iternet connection" was fine..

The other day I asked my brother if I could use the I Ok, my brother sent me back this notebook.."Linksys ver 3.0 Wireless Plug in Netword Card" as I was going on vacation. I told him to configure use his "Wireless Network" wile I was gone.

Came back last night and he has told me the "Wireless Network" connection did not work for him. I brought back this notebook to run further test.

First Off, I went to "device manager" and under "OTHER DEVICES" there are 2 items in the list with "yellow exclamation marks"

    1.) THE "MASS STORAGE CONTROLLER"
    2.) THE NETWORK CONTROLLER

As far as I could tell the "MASS STORAGE CONTROLLER" refers to the "CHIP SET DRIVERS"

I went to gateway and under MX3562 XP Pro 32bit (see link) http://support.gateway.com/us/en/product/default.aspx?partNumber=5415

Here I downloaded several drivers, first working on the "Mass Storage" I downloaded the "Chip Set Driver ver 6.2.1.1001 " I ran the install set up and rebooted. "The Mass Storage controller" is still in other device list :(

Moving on, I downloaded the Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller DOS NDIS2 Ethernet Driver Version: 3.12 (see link below)

    http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/getFile.asp?now=1&id=20716&uid=310520656

However, I see no exe or set up after extracting the files...

At this point, I tried to plug a direct connection cable to connect to internet (high speed Verizon Fios) and it would not estabish the connection..

I then pluged back in my Linksys ver3.0 wirless card and it starts the internet FAST..

At this point, I told my brother to simply use the linksys 3.0 card and all will be fine. However he wants to fix the issue of the 2 listed devices..

I truly have exhausted my limits on repairng the two issues..

    ANY THOUGHTS?
    Thank You
    Superlost

Perhaps the Mass Storage Controllers are for memory card (SD/MMC/ ... ) slots?

'Good' network drivers are just a very few files, if there's an *.inf file there, right-click it and select Install, then from Device Manager, uninstall the network card then reboot. Or you could point DevMan to it to install from.

  15. Superlost6

Not sure about the Mass StorageController.. New to that one.. I checked the Broadband zip and there is no .ini file there as well :(

There is a B44.dos file there, yet when I click it it says select a file to open with. ????????

  17. satrow

    satrow Major Geek Extraordinaire

That makes me think you've downloaded the driver in a floppy/compressed format; have you extracted the contents of the zip to a folder and do you have Explorer set so that you see hidden files and folders?

  18. Superlost6

    Superlost6 Specialist

yes I downloaded and then extracted the files, then it opens a new unzipped folder, there is no .ini or .exe in the folder. Not sure if I have the hidden folders and files disable or enabled. How do I assure? Thanks for helping

Well, you could try installing those drivers with the methods I described earlier but it looks like you downloaded the wrong ones. These seem to be to enable Ghost to create/load an image over a Netware network.

You need real Windows drivers for TCP/IP etc.

Just installed and ran set up on Lan driver. It installed "IntelProset" (see image) I uninstalled the device "Network controller" and rebooted.

After reboot, it found new hardware (the network Controller) and wanted me to install drivers. I then went to start, programs, intel proset, and opened the program (see image)

there is nothing in the list and nothing to open...

    Truly Lost!

looks like all re-installed, the list under Network Adapters is...

    1394 Net Adapter (device working)

Broadcom 440x 10/100 Intergrated Controller (device working)

Internet Wireless Network PC card ver3.0 (device working)

    that's all under Network Adapters..

The 2 items are still under "Other Devices" w/ yellow marks. Mass Storage Controler & Network Controller

  33. satrow

    satrow Major Geek Extraordinaire

Card reader driver = Mass storage device.

EDIT: there's a Hardware Vendor Detection Utility there too, download and run it, it should help you discover and install the correct driver for the last networking item.

Sound good, let me go try that. Once more "THANK YOU"

  35. Superlost6

    Superlost6 Specialist

That took care of the Network Controller issue, it's gone from "Other Devices" by downloading the Card Reader driver (your so smart!)

Once rebooted the "Network Controller" is still in "other Devices" I downloaded the "Driver Utility" from the page and ran it. It came up with one item in a list

    Wireless LAN intel

Has no options to do anything, So I simply reinstalled so I went back and reinstalled the driver

    Calexico 2 / Intel PROSet Intel 8.0.12.9000

it downloads and installs the proset program. I open it and nothing in the list like last time and no comads to select...

    Stumped on this one...

Still can't conect w/ wireless or ethernet cable connection.. Only can connect with the Linksys Wireless Card ver 3.0

  36. satrow

Hmm wireless, eh - you might have a physical switch or extra key to turn the wireless card on before it will install, check with the manual for your laptop, it's linked from that page somewhere.

This looks like a cell phone battery, simply plugs in the bottom of notebook. No dials or switches

The Gateway page for your laptop seems to indicate that there's a built-in (or an option of) wireless networking card, according to the Gateway manual, it can be turned on or off using the Fn+F2 key combo.

  39. Superlost6

    Superlost6 Specialist

Tried the FN+F2 and nothing happens, is there a "Driver finder" tool that might help?

There are driver finder tools that could make things worse ...

Try running that scanner on the download page again?

Yes, it has no options to fix anything nor does it say anything is wrong

  42. Superlost6

    Wireless LAN intel

yet has no option to do anything

That's the missing driver, download and install it.

  44. Superlost6

I downloaded Slimdriver from Major geeks download. I know you said not to. (I was reaching) However, it found 3 drivers out of date and replaced with new drivers.. It all works now and network controller is now gone from the "Device Mgr other"....

There is still an issue with the "Hard Line Ethernet" connection.. I can get online now with internal wireless & wireless card (plug in type) however simply taking the cord from the router directly to the notebook via Ethernet cable does not work. Any suggestions?

You have helped so much since day one. I can't thank you enough;)

  45. satrow

    satrow Major Geek Extraordinaire

"Out of date" doesn't mean that they don't still work or that the new ones are any better. Did it actually install a new driver? I guess it was the internal wireless card from your comments.

Control Panel > Networking > right-click and select Status on your Broadcom wired adapter, can you give me the full details there please, IP address, Gateway, etc.?

I go to control panel and then "Network Connections" I see NO Status Button? I right click on it and its options for "Status" is GRAYED out!

Hmm, that reads like Windows isn't in control of it, probably need to find the connection details via the bloatware Broadcom Control Panel instead.
