I know that this has probably been knocked around before, which is best etc. I stumbled on one called SRWare Iron. Iron is a clone of Google Chrome but slimmed down a bit. I was wondering if anyone had any positive or negative feedback on it? Some say it still spies on you like Chrome does? I haven't tried Firefox yet but like Iron OK, Pretty fast.

    Hello There,

FF 5 is quite fast but it has loads of addon's you can choose to customise your browser but some of them slow it down. All browsers are fast if you internet connection is fast.

I have got 100mb Broadband and I can't tell any difference in any browser I used it goes down to user preference at the end of the day.

Instead of Google chrome you could try Comodo Dragon which has bumped up security in browsing.

I currently use Slimbrowser after I had problems with Rockmelt 3 beta.

    Hope This Helps

Opera is probably the fastest, depending on which test reports you look at.

It gets the highest scores for web standards compliance and was the first to pass the Acid 3 test in March 2008.
Acid 3: Opera first to 106

Opera is more secure than the other major browsers, has fewer security issues, as reported by Secunia,
and the development team generally responds very quickly when a security issue is discovered.

Håkon Wium Lie, one of the authors of CSS, Cascading Style Sheets , is the Chief Technical Officer for Opera Software.

Thanks for the inputs. I've tried Opera before albeit it was quite a while ago, I may give them another look. The security and privacy issues concern me more than anything I guess as well as speed. IE8 was giving me fits and IE7 isn't much better and it's been reported that IE is a hackers paradise. I did notice in a list of browsers Comodo Dragon and know that they make good stuff, I'll give them a look as well.

I've tried Opera, SW Iron, Google Chrome but Firefox is my favorite due to its endless possibility to tweak, addons etc. Also have Palemoon which claims to be an optimized version of Firefox and one can use Fx's addons. Some addons of Firefox can indeed slow down the startup and browsing but AMO is working hard to eliminate that with co-operation of the addon authors. Here is a link to the slow performance addons: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/performance/#addon-11 Keep in mind that this list may change over the course of time as the authors may improve their addons.

Keep in mind of the most important thing about security, that is the one who does the surfing.

Try PaleMoon. It's a slimmed down Firefox.

Thanks again for the tips from everyone. I thought I had done enough research on browsers to choose a good one but have picked up a few things I didn't know from all of you. thanks again.

I downloaded and am fiddling with Opera. I have two questions, why do you have to open an account or at least it seems that way and is there an Opera forum site to discuss it? It doesn't seem too complicated but still would like to know more about it.

I'm not sure you have to open an account either, just asking around. Thanks for the Opera forum link.

Looks like you would need an Opera account to use: Opera Unite, Opera Link, or Opera Mail. Just to use the browser though you don't need an account.
