Yeah just been watching the breaking news of this tragic death, sadly as you rightly state Augie the pressure of fame has taken its toll in likely drink and drugs or in light of no autopsy results yet on the cause, but I feel those are the likely culprits.

Jeez, I didn't know she won 5 Grammy's for her 'Back to Black' album. I think I'll hit youtube and check that out, too bad I didn't do that before her demise.

Yeah I was pretty shocked,I heard it on the radio a couple of hours ago,she was found dead about 4 hours ago.

Apparently she was in rehab,my friend said she saw her on TV and she looked the best she had in years,I'm just guessing but she may have relapsed and use the regular dose she was used to before rehab and OD'd.

Aged 27:confused I guess I find it more of a shocker because she was younger than me,I find it amazing that she has been infinitely more successful than me in life and yet I lasted longer than her.

OMG David, that's right up my musical tastes! Too bad that I gave her such short shrift because of her antics.:( I'm going YouTube her all day now.*sigh*

I never thought about that age thing and I named 3 out of 4 of the top of them without realizing that there's a 27club. Very sad indeed.

Augie I know she was really underestimated by many and I think many will now review her works and really love the talent..... sad as she like many others end up with their work posthumously rewarded by us all.

I do not doubt Augie that you will find on youtube some great tracks of hers.... a great talent lost by fame I fear!

    Alot of them.

Sad on Amy Winehouse, but not surprising.

CatT I can't follow the rules

Joplin was 49 when he died and Morrison is still going strong at 65. Whatchu talkin' bout, Willis?!

And does 27 have a higher rate than any other age? None of the famous rock star deaths were at that age -- Richie Valens was 17, Buddy Holly was 22, The Big Bopper 28, Sam Cooke 33, John Lennon 40, and Elvis 42.

Even among non-singer celebs, I'm hard pressed to find many who were 27. Jimmy Dean was 24, Marilyn Monroe 36, Belushi and Farley both 33.

Anyway, I liked Winehouse's sound. Belonged on a Bond theme song....

    Requiescat in Pace!

Uhm, that would be Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison.;) As to if it's the most popular age I have no idea but this is the only club that I've heard of.

Auggie - I do believe you meant Van Morrison ;) (Jim Morrison is on the 27 Club list)

Nope, Van is still kicking around. The 27 Club is only composed of the dead. Jim Morrison of the Doors.:confused Perhaps you misread my post to CatT? She was the one talking about Scott Joplin and Van Morrison I believe.

Oops, I certainly did - my bad :-o CatT was thinking of Van Morrison. So now you mention Scott Joplin - always like his ragtime......he lived longer the Louis Chauvin, though

Wow, you must really like ragtime to come up with an obscure name like that who only penned three tunes(yes I wiki'd and youtubed him;)) I always check out people that I've never heard of, especially the early musicians which are the foundation of many genres today. I'm a jazz and blues man.

Years ago there was a movie biography on Scott Joplin, and Louis was portrayed as his contemporary. Seeing Louis name in the 27 Club reminded me of the movie. I enjoyed playing some of Joplin's rags but due to psoriatic arthritis (under control thru enbrel) I can't stretch my right hand for a long time playing octave chords.

Ouch, got psoriatic arthritis in my knees but it's not too bad with Naproxen, a mild case until I can't straighten my legs. Enbrel is very serious stuff. Good luck. Now I know why you have that avatar.:)
