Hello guys. After doing a full malware scan using all the info on this forum, I tried going into safe mode by using ms config. When I click boot ini tab it stays on the windows recovery console selection and the safe mode box is greyed out. It won’t let me select anything else as it just reverts back to the recovery console selection. As you can see by the attachement it says it’s not a valid operating system so would it be safe to delete it?
When I boot up I get a black screen which gives me two options one says Microsoft windows recovery console do not select this (debugger enabled) and the other, which is highlighted, just says Microsoft windows xp professional. It does boot into windows ok it’s just that why would the recovery console be there when it must not be selected? And what would happen if it was accidentally selected? I’d like it not to be there to be honest as I have the original xp disc. I know to run combofix I needed to install windows recovery console but I’d still like to use msconfig to go into safe mode sometime.just one more thing in the boot ini list it has the unsupported debug (do not select this option)/debug line, is ok to delete also or is it important to the os? Thanks for your help guys.:)

No, that is okay, I thought that by removing it, you would no longer have your boot screen. I would think that deleting those two lines in boot.ini would solve your problem but I would not do that until someone else on this board who is more familiar with Boot.ini can confirm that.

Cheers for the reply Dan. So would you suggest deleting both the recovery console and the UnsupportedDebug="do not select this" /debug command lines via my computer , properties, advanced, startup and recovery, settings, edit. Then where the boot ini file in notepad is just delete both command lines then save the changes? Would this solve my problem? So windows recovery console is ok to remove from msconfig boot ini then? Hope I’ve got that correct.
    Thanks again:)
