Well, that is 7 minutes I'll never get back in my life. No pertinent dialogue or action and to sum up one of your lines:
    It sucks. :major

Honestly, it's totally lacking in anything that keeps your interest, Zack. Your sound is pretty bad too. You can't hear most of what's being said.

I have to give you kudos for trying to create your own thing though.

This was more for the fun of making it than for the product. I am improving the audio for the next episode.

Well I'm not going to say much about the story or camera work because almost anything can be considered artistic but... one thing you really need to think about is your realism.

Simple things like... Detectives on the job do NOT wear flip flops, not great for chasing people in.

Also some of the things you say sound like a teenager is saying them...

    "Well that stakeout sucked"
"I'm writing up the report on the stakeout thing"

These are simply not anywhere near realistic, or at least I hope not.

Also both of you looked at the camera a couple of times which is only really acceptable if it's a reality show, which obviously this is not.

Story etc can change quite easily at this point since all we've seen is cops on a stakeout (that sucked :-D ) and then some person shot in the head.

It really seems like you were going for a CSY type of opening.

But hey man, kudos for putting in the effort, maybe just think a bit more deeply about what you are doing and saying.

The camera work looked like the cameraman was having an epileptic seizure, the acting was non-existent as was the storyline, but other than that, it still sucked LOL. As a fun exercise though, congrats on at least making something.

    Hi Zack

Well I have to say a good project to work on and the main things that come out for me is more script, need to have one, use story boards and perfect a theme and series type for this show.

In the vain of the likes of NCIS, in are you a specific police dept, is it a normal type one, wouldnt go that way as doubt that works these days, so need a latch as the "Stephen Segal" type thing in a lone ex-CIA agent now working as a cop, or a specialist team... that way you can give the others characters and backgrounds (do work out a life story for the characters).

Are they going after weekly crimes or would it be a series going after one big kingpin criminal/gang, weeklys I would find are easier to script.

Audio, well once you have worked out the script, you can fill in bits like the car journey and part of the typing up of the stakeout with incidental music (only have to see how CSI do it), saves long pauses in the script and adds tension.

Filmwork, ok, but try and do different angles of shots, from your viewpoints and from the intended targets as well as have some shots of the outside of the car from the side paths of the car coming and going past.

But do you know what I would concentrate on first, getting a show startup sequence, nail that and your most of the way, but good stuff not Oscar material yet, but a damn good start.

Thank you for the input all.

The camera person was my partner's twin sister, who I'm going to be getting a tripod soon. I have another camera, and am looking for someone to operate it.

And, the clothes were supposed to be undercover-like lol. I'm almost done with episode 2's script, where we wear normal clothes, and all of your suggestions have been used in one way or another. :)

Do lots of multiple takes from different angles and BAM you can just pick and choose the specific angle for any shot. Makes it a ton more impressive.

Watch "Possumus Woman"...it's basically two dudes doing all the filming and editing, so you will probably be able to pick up a useful tip or two by watching it.

Also, use separate recording microphones (like those little ones people take audio notes on) and then sync it up to the video in post processing. Equalize the background audio so that the background noises and the low quality voices you recorded with the video camera are at a tad lower volume, and what you are left with is good quality voices and also listenable background sounds. I recommend Sony Acid to do this, but there are other programs that will do specific audio/video sync.

Zach, if your interested in filming/video, i suggest you find out if your city has a local community public access tv station that you can volunteer at. Many times they have beginner classes, and studios available for your use at very low or no cost. That way you can learn about ways to make your video the best, from audio to editing. The shaky video at the beginning really just killed it for me.
