is there a way to get taller after 30?
my brother, 18 months older than me, grew and I shrank, he was in his early 30s and I have no idea how, or why I'm shrinking,, I have bad posture and dont walk well due to the coma/brain injury I had at 21,, but I can almost play sports, almost run,

I was thinking about how the bones constantly remodel themselves via osteoblasts/osteoclasts(I was in a 6yr BA/MD med school before the coma) and I would think theorectically, limb lenghting surgery would work, my tosro is way long and my legs are 28-29 inches....
I wasnt sure if this was the place to post about this, but I know this board has some awfully smart people, so what the heck

 

I would say deal with it. Better posture and some stretching might get you a little taller.

30.... It is all downhill after that! :-D

 

Pretty much the way physiology works, you're done growing well before you turn 30. If you want to be taller, you could always have lifts put in your shoes, start an exercise/stretching regimen, or consult a doctor to see if they have any better ideas. But your height is pretty much not going to increase after your early 20's.

yeah, I know how the phyisiology works, I dont buy into a stretching program crap,, I'm thinkin about dropping some dough on having my legs lengthed,
I've already spent a ****in decade trying to relearn how to walk and talk and had surgery to see properly(lateral rectus myectomy)

Sorry but you just gotta live with it,some of us are dwarfs and some are beanpoles.
I had a motorcycle accident some years ago and as a result of various surgeries i am 1 inch shorter and my left leg is 3/4 of an inch longer than the right, plus i have a large amount of metal inside me,i am just glad i don't have a hunchback or they would rename me Quasimodo :-D

 

Leg lenthening? You know how that's done eh? CRACK!!! EVERY FEW MONTHS. Do what you wish but I would deal with it and be happy that you 'can almost do stuff' and work towards improving what you already have got in a gym. You really think all that pain will make it worth it?

 

I suggest you get new sources for your information or you look at the links I provided.

If I had thought that when I was waking up from my coma, Id still be 3ft tall.

I'm also not a MD..like I was going to become before I got detoured, should I also give up and not pursue that career?

Well, it's obviously up to you if you want to go through an incredibly lengthy, incredibly painful, incredibly expensive procedure purely to be a couple of inches taller. It would not be an option for me, nor for anyone else I know, but it's your decision.

However, if one of the reasons you are shorter is because your tendons tightened up while you were in a coma, you should be able to work on that. Probably you should have started a long time before now (it sounds as if you came out of the coma well over a decade ago), but you might still be able to do something about it.

Seriously, sorry you've had to go through that but there is nothing wrong in being short. I guess it's up to you on how important being a few inches taller is to you but if I had the option to get shorter, without have to chop my legs off :-D, I'd probably do it.

 

I ask a lot of questions here, rarely give my opinion, I dont recall asking for anyone's opinion, I find it hilarious you think anyone but you cares about your uneducated opinions.. I have a few opinions to share as well..:wave

Usually when people ask questions, people want answers that are usually thier opinions.

Don't see how my opinons are uneducated and never said anyone should care. I simply can't understand how you could be offended by my post but you don't need to be so rude about it.
