My Corsair F40 SSD (40gig) (C: drive) I use mostly for OS is getting perilously full. I have removed Firefox and reinstalled FF 6.0 on my F: drive . My bookmarks carried over, but even since my previous version, I have been having troubles with google ever since messing around with my setting. I cannot change google search settings any more - see this thread for more info on this : http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=241980 When i try to change search settings, it tells me cookies are disabled, and they are not. I took the google entry out of adblock, and to my knowledge, have nothing else blocking google .
I though that by getting firefox off my expanding C drive, and installing a newer version would fix it, but apparently all my settings carried over somehow. I want to start with ALL DEFAULT setting with FF 6.0, EXCEPT i want to keep my bookmarks . What is the best way to handle this ?

Yeah, something I've done is preventing me from signing in to Gmail, and changing search settings. Guess I will disable my add-ons and see if that fixes things.

Even with all addons disabled, I cannot change search settings or login to Gmail.
I've never had this problem before. . .

That is because FF6.0 is not yet ready for prime time. I tried it out yesterday, and reinstalled FF5.0.1, due to FF6 kept crashing, and was slower than the previous version. Once FF says that it needs to be updated, then I will let it, but right now, I am going to wait for more of the bugs to be worked out of the newer version.

Well, I was having the same problem with FF5 though. I want to know how to restore ALL SETTINGS to default, but keep my bookmarks .
-now heading off to mozilla site in search of . . . .

I would export my bookmarks then uninstall firefox ALSO delete the mozila folder inside %appdata% (varies depending on OS version) this is where your profile is stored so when you reinstall it will be bare with no addons, etc. Then import your bookmarks.

I agree that this is the best way.

Export your bookmarks using the Bookmark Organizer function.
I would copy or rename the whole Mozilla folder (or at least the bookmarksbackup folder)from %appdata% to a new location like the desktop. This just gives you an extra copy of your bookmarks.
    Then uninstall FF.
Make sure that the Mozilla folder no longer exists in %appdata%.
Install FF (I'd probably use the default settings of allowing it onto the C: drive).
    Import your bookmarks.
If everything checks out OK then delete the desktop Mozilla folder or keep it depending on the size.

    ***
I think you can get to %appdata% by just typing into the Run box on XP. Or in Vista/7 type it in and then select Roaming from the list of suggestions.

Done. Went back to version 3.6.2 for certain functionality. Thanks !

Wow. The text in 3.6.2 is much thinner and not as bold as 5 and 6 . yes, I did cleartype settings again . Hm . . ..

Read somewhere to hold off til' version 7 comes along. Am using 4.0.1 on the windows partition and 5.0.1 on the Linux partition. Have version 3.6.20 in my downloads folder and will probably go back to that on Windows.

I do not want to play with the aurora build yet for 7, so I may wait until beta. Only other thing I have seen, is that Java 6.0.26 console is incompatible with ff6.

FF 6 is out of beta as of 16 Aug. I installed it on 4 of the 5 windows partitions on the computers that access the internet.
FF5 was a disaster for me so I was eager to try something new. I figured if FF 6 mis-behaved, froze and became unresponsive like 5, I'd uninstall it and reinstall 3.6.14.
So far, FF6 has been good on my main surfing windows computer.

Just logged in to my gmail account with no problem.

I never had problems with FF5. I have had nothing but constant headaches with FF6.

I am against the flow. Lots of people has trouble with 4 but I didn't. Then 5 came and all those with 4 troubles loved 5. I didn't. So far after less than 24 hours of use, 6 has been great. (I do not run betas of browsers - it is just too critical).

When I went to install Firefox on a fresh installation on a friend's computer I'm fixing (hard drive went bad), version 6 was the default download, so I went with it. Then, I used the Help>About on my machine to update it. No issues at all here. I had issues with FF4, but 5 and 6 no problems at all.

I find it interesting that they went with several revisions of 3 for AWHILE, and 4-6 have been released within several months of each other.

Moving FF is not going to help that situation much I'm afraid, look elsewhere with TreeSize Free after unhiding protected files etc. I've got a 40GB SSD and I always have to watch it. As to FF, those others know way more than I do.

Did you mean version 3.6.20? It's the latest 3.6.xx version, just released yesterday?

Don't know how long Fx v3.6.xx will be supported but not for long as I've read somewhere.

Have had no problems going from Fx 4>5>6 except from 3>4 with printing but that was resolved fast.

The version numbers 5 and 6 that Fx has been spitting out so fast are not really major/new versions, only security, stability and improvements. There will be a 6 week cycle for every subsequent new version #. The days of versions e.g. 3.6.18 - 3.6.19 - 3.6.20 etc are over unless something critical comes along in between the next version.
    https://wiki.mozilla.org/Features/Release_Tracking#Firefox_7

Also in the not too distant future, you will see no more Fx version # in the *about* window if *asa* has his way and it certainly looks like that. But one can (I believe) go to Help>Troubleshooting Information and get the Fx version # you have on the machine there. Whole lot of fuss going on about removal in the *about* window. http://groups.google.com/group/mozilla.dev.usability/browse_thread/thread/fe75ec92c02be934#

As of right now, 9.0a1 still shows in help about.

On a previous nightly 5 or so days ago, I had to start over with a new profile. I didn't need to uninstall or remove anything from %appdata%. I just ran firefox -ProfileManager

Before I did this, I backed up my book marks and exported my last pass. Re-created a new profile. Exited, deleted the old. Then relaunched, imported bookmarks, re-installed last pass, imported passwords. All good to go.

Since I've updated to 9.0a1 I had to modify my lastpass install.rdf file to get it working. Simply open it in notepad, and look for <em:maxVersion> change the number to (for instance mine) 10.0a1. Works like a charm now.

I'm old school when it comes to modifying the .rdf files, instead of using about:config. I find my way a lot easier.

Of course the version # still shows. It's not a done deal yet in how to do it exactly but *Asa* wants to do it desperately and by reading the contents in the link I posted shows that he is convinced of going ahead despite pleas to leave it as is. Most software programs have an *about* window - even Google Chrome. Read further down the link where you see this conversation.
MozillaZine forums will love it when users won't be able to find their version # and are requesting support or want to go back to an earlier version due to various reasons. ;) Even Microsoft lets you roll back from IE8 down to IE7.

Well, using 3.6.whatever, mozilla relentlessly gave me popups that 5 was available and I should download it. So i gave in and went back to 5 . So far its fine, my theme and add-ons carried over without problem. Funny thing was, as soon as 5 was installed, it automatically took me to the download page for FF6 ! LOL
I did NOT go to 6.
BTW, ive heard that nightly works pretty well, and the Aurora is pretty good as well, but I'm gonna stick with 5 for now.

GeeZ, i think i posted this in another thread, or maybe another forum, but FF5 updated itself withOUT my consent to FF6 . I did not want FF6, in fact I intentionally uninstalled 6 and went back to 3.whatever . So now I'm using Aurora, and find it works pretty well, with only a few graphical bugs . The flashplayer crashing seems to have been fixed . I just don;t like being forced into FF 6 when i didn't want it. I dont know what's going on with Mozilla, I don't know anything of their internal devs or any of that, but they are really starting to get annoying. Why couldn't they good enough alone ? Fixing things when they aren't broken ? REALLY ? I'm kinda anti-chrome, and not a big fan of Opera, but I am starting to keep my eyes open for a lightweight browser with good functionality and, most important to me - ADBLOCKING capabilities .

You aren't alone in your quest.
I've tried portable versions of Iron Browser and Sea Monkey. Forget Iron Browser. Sea Monkey might be a possibility, though I really don't need a suite. I just want a stand alone browser.
Sea Monkey doesn't seem to be on the radical, new "a new browser every 6 weeks" cycle that FF has adopted.
Earlier I tried Chromium (portable Chrome) and wasn't thrilled with it.

I stick to portable versions until I find something I actually might want to install.
