Yeah reading this this morning and thought it was a joke, but it seems HP think they can do better in Software.... me thinks not, going on past experience.

Their hardware as in HP/Compaq was OK, and gives Dell a run for their monies, but if they are to go high end corporate software I wish them well as they will have to fight Microsoft and various Linux OS and apps.

There is a boat load of HP computers out there in the free market. I wonder how they will handle servicing of those units. :confused

Yup I got a HP laptop it really was the best of the bunch with the most features and best bang for buck,if I remember correctly the closest laptop with all the features I wanted was quite a bit more expensive.

I'm wondering if the current economic climate has them considering things they wouldn't otherwise, everyone is hurtin ATM.

Maybe they should consider a marketing campaign similar to Apples? They could really use something to boost product awareness, its become a staple brand but very undersold and boring.

I dunno make some really cool innovative products similar to Apple? They could them get back to some serious engineering and not just parts lists and margins.

    Thanks motc7. :major

Now I know why an Australian chain store is offering 40% OFF all HP stuff for 4 days this weekend. Not UP TO 40% OFF

I went to check them out yesterday (after another HP Printer maybe) but didn't find one that met my criteria. Some of the laptops were very nice, and well priced at 40% OFF :) but I am pretty happy with my Toshiba.

For Aussies, Gerry is the boss. ;)

I agree on best bang for buck as while I dont have a HP I do have a Compaq laptop which is same brand (wonder if the Compaq side is to continue as that's not mentioned) and its feature rich for the price vs other brands.

Apple have the marketing sown up in relation to making their brand a fashion accessory over just being tech.

Speaking of which, my daughters keyboard is having issues with two keys not working. The shop wants $150 to fix it. So I lent her one of my laptops, guess what happened to that one!!

"Somebody borrowed it and spilled something on the keyboard, Daddy." ( Where is the smiley for I am pissed off to no end!! ).

I don't know if she lent it or if someone ( one of her roommates ) just decided to use it without asking. The "someone:" needs to fix it!!!

At first a few years ago, I thought they were too expensive. But when I saw that their preconfigured machines had the hardware that I needed, whereas at say Dell I would have to spend a lot more to get what i wanted, well, HP was and is for me.

Wouldn't surprise me, but they are saying that this is a longstanding corporate culture/Philosophy type thing. I don't know if that is just talk for, "we are hurting right now". Thing is, I cannot imagine who is better than HP when it comes to laptops/desktops. I mean ASUS and Acer are nice, but man HP has such a good support system and site it's unbelievable.

Good point. Never thought of that. Gimmicky ads work with people sadly enough.

I bought my wife an HP pavilion 553 years ago and it is still going strong. The thing has been the recipient of all my cast-off "upgrades" over the years and it has never failed to accept any of them.

It's now in the guest room upstairs and not turned on much, but I can count on it fire up when needed.
