My youngest got it from her cousin.:cry

Omg...I had to deal with this about 6 years ago and was hoping to never have to again.

What's worse is we went on vacation last week with another family and their daughter has it now too.

So, 1 1/2 hours of combing a day for the next week for me and hoping that by some miracle my oldest doesn't wind up with it (or worse...me). We've both come out clean so far.

    Anyone deal with this before?

Any miracles I should know about other than the shampoo and then cleaning out the hair every damn day?

I can't help but roflmao! You're doing all you can, maybe put some plastic covers on her pillows for now. Sorry Laura.;)

My niece had to deal with this with two toddlers and a baby when she first got them, so I asked her. I'll just copy and paste, it'll be easier. :)

It's disgusting, but you need to get mayonnaise- real mayonnaise, not Miracle Whip, and coat her head in it. Real thick coating and covering all of her hair. Put a shower cap on her head that's tight enough to hug her head, or if you can't find one tight enough, just plan on sitting by her all day and grabbing bugs as they escape the cap. Leave it on for at least 8 hours, 12 is better. Wash it out of her hair and comb. The mayonnaise suffocates the bugs. To keep it from coming back use coconut shampoo and conditioner, with real coconut oil. I don't know how old her daughter is, but if she's old enough, hair dye kills all the bugs immediately and you just have to pick out the knits. It also helps to put baby oil in their head when you're combing because the bugs will run away from the oil so usually they'll all run to the skin where you can see them a lot better- it also seems to loosen up the knits. If she has one, try to get a bare lamp right above her head when you're combing through, like a spotlight. Makes it TONS easier to see. Hope some of that helps!

    Good luck!!!

Use Nix and wash EVERYTHING in the hottest water you can. You will be doing lot's of laundry and such but it is well worth doing. Buy everyone their own brushes/combs and make sure they use them and NEVER place them together to prevent cross contamination. Some people say a little bleach in the water helps as well. The main thing is to be sure to launder everything that will fit into the washing machine (might need to go to the local laundramat to get the bedding done). If you have pets you will not need to treat them because the human head louse is specific to humans ONLY. That is a blessing in itself. Good luck and hope it does not drive you too nuts!

This is coming from a man who spent several years as a foster parent so take it for what it is worth.

lmao...I knew there'd be one. :p (Tim and Rikky made three :-D)

I've read that the sufficating thing is sort of a myth and doesn't work. My Pediatrician did say to try using Cetophil (moisturizing face wash) like that though, so I'll try that. I'm going to go out and get Tea Tree Oil shampoo which is supposed to be good too. I did read about coconut oil, so may try that.

Thanks Jack. :) Yep, I'm doing all that. The best thing I found from last time is going through her hair 'nit-picking' :)puke) for about an hour each day. I'm going to do the second Nix treatment on Sunday night (about a week later).

roflmao Somehow I don't think my daughter would agree.

Good link. :) I've been doing all that.

Not yet... unless you mean kids. :-D

In my nit picking today I found live ones. :eek It sometimes takes a bit for them to die.

There's this process around our area where you go to a business and they have some procedure that works....if you want to pay $175. :(

It's just a whole family affair here. My brother's 2 girls have it, my sister's daughter has it and my sister has them.

Not really the family get togethers one would hope for.:-D

Actually, we're dealing with that right now. And theres some easy non poison things you can do that will kill the little monsters.

First take normal mayonaise and some lime juice and mix them together. spread in liberally through the hair so that the entire head is covered, especially thick at the temples and the back of the neck. Then wrap the head in plastic wrap to keep it from getting all over, and go to bed. It smothers the little bastards to death.

Next get some Coconut shampoo and conditioner. It can be cheap, it doesn't matter. And use it to wash out the mayonnaise. They hate coconut. No one really knows why.

    Comb comb comb.

in a day or two soak the head in listerine. Normal strength yellow listerine and leave it there for 45 minutes. Wash it out with the coconut. Comb comb comb.

    done deal.

If by chance it doesn't work, the over the counter dandruff shampoo, Denorex, also kills and repels them even though it isn't marketed for that. You'll see why when you use it. it smells vile and it burns on your scalp. Rub it in, leave it for a few minutes, rinse it out.

When all of that has failed THEN use RIT, over the counter. It should take care of the scragglers. But you can only really use it safely once a week, so leave it for last.

My daughter gets it once every year or so because we live in the burbs and "its not possible" for upper middle class white children to get lice, so they live in denial and give it to those of us in reality to deal with. I hate them.

Which kind did you get? The easy little white ones that die easy or the bionic dark brown ones imported from OZ. Those little effers refuse to die.

ps. If you happen to get it, you're and adult. Dye your hair. Dead. :p and you look fabulous. Plus, after the mayonnaise, so will your daughter. It's like a cholesterol conditioning treatment. Smells awful though.

Got twice from my kids when they were in school. The first time it was chemical treatment. It worked, but I didn't like it. The second time I washed my hair with Head and Shoulders really good, then rinsed my head under the tap with the hottest water I could stand. That worked way faster than the chemicals.

Yep...that is my biggest thing. I obsesses over combing them out. We did the shampoo already. Second day, I combed out 5 or 6 slowly moving little tiny ones. 3rd day I pulled out one dead one. I'll comb every day for a week or until everything is gone.

I've read about all the other methods but haven't tried them. I wouldn't trust any of them to work without combing anyway. I do make sure I put loads of conditioner in to keep them from being able to move as well if they are in there.

    That's an interesting perspective.:-D

I didn't know there were white head lice. I think those may be body lice? I know the hatched nits are white. Either way, these are brown.

It must have been pretty hot. :eek

Obviously, you know about the vast lexicon of lice/nit killing and removal treatments from the drug store, but and old remedy in the U.K. was the old kerosene, Crude but effective :eek. Pure coconut oil, (available from any good Indian shop or supermarket), helps stop the 'nits' from sticking to the hairs, making removal easy. Also helps suffocate lice if used thickly. May need to wrap the noggin in plastic wrap overnight, unless you want the bed reeking of coconut, LoL! The coconut oil is also very good for the scalp/hair.

After the kerosene Barry you would HAVE to have something good for the scalp. BTW is it part of the kerosene treatment to use a candle to look for the little buggers? LOL
