no cable or wireless internet connection

Good day everybody.

My friend got assembled PC, It is winxp pro sp3, using it for about 2 years now. because he needs updates while he has no INTERNET connection, I had it, plugged it and connected to my dsl to reach INTERNET. I received no connectivity or limited connection, I did my best to have it worked either by cable or wireless with no luck!.

I did try everything by play with network settings - did not work.
I reset netshield and ipconfig with no luck.
I ran CIntRep.exe from http://www.rizonesoft.com with no luck.

What is your current setup with your own computer? Just the dsl modem and the computer or is there more connected? You mention wireless so I am guessing there is also a wireless router and other devices?

If your computer is not plugged in the dsl modem directly and providing the user and login info, you SHOULD be able to copy the network settings from it and use it on the outside computer. Are the Local Area Connection and the wireless connection enabled on the friend's computer? Does he have any firewall program? What operating system is he on? XP or Vista maybe?

1- Yes, it is connected direct to cable/wireless dsl router, also I tried my neibour router by cable and wireless, other systems on my router working fine.

But I believe ip address is unique, how can I do set same ip address for 2 computers ?.

Please let me know if I should switch on wireless network and provide ip address.
