Do I need to Update Drivers if things work?

I recently upgraded my system from XP 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit. I had to upgrade my graphic card drivers because only 3 out of 4 of the monitors worked. The problem was fixed by updating the drivers. Meanwhile I realized that the NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller, the NVIDIA nForce PCI System Management, and the ASUS Tech ATK0110 ACPI Utility need updating. As far as I know, all these items are working fine, do I need to update them? if so, why?:confused
    Thanks.

In this case, the adage, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" applies. (That's kind of non-geeky but WTH.;))

Usually a change log will be in the driver file and will describe the items that the driver update fixes. If you want to read this and then decide to update, that is your choice.

My sentiments exactly !!!;) the amount of folk that have had to come here for help after "up dating drivers" that were working perfectly well before hand is huge!! especially those that use driver finding software which can create a nightmare for the user ... so the general caveat here is as you have already pointed out " if it aint broke why fix it??".

So the answer to the question is a resounding "NO" there is no need for you to install those up-dates as everything is working as it should be ;).

I also agree that if there's no need... I've only updated BIOS and chipset driver once in all these years, I was replacing a single core CPU with a dual, after some 40 builds(not all for me). I update video drivers when I think of it, last time was a year ago.

    Thank you guys !!

Intuitively I knew this was asking for trouble, but it is nice to have confirmation. :)

I too have drivers in device manager with exclamation marks but this does not seem to affect my computer, I have seen this before and been told just to delete or disable them.
