    Hello,

    As you may have noticed, I am new to this great and well-known tech forum (that is why I came here first:)). On my other, much-much older computer (or should I say my family's, as I am the only tech-savy one).

    I just recently installed windows 7 ultimate 32-bit because I had Windows XP with the Service Pack 2 on it. But, after I finished installing Windows 7, the internet stopped working! I went to device manager and there is no "network adapters" section, and under "Other Devices" 4 other drivers have exclamation points next to them (such as Ethernet Controller, Multimedia Audio Controller, Network Controller, PCI Simple Communications Controller and Unkown Device). I know there IS a network adapter because it worked before I installed Windows 7. I even tried a "cold reboot" where I shut down the computer, unplug and plug back in everything and even that did not work:cry So, I then saw that my old system was WINDOWS 64-BIT, so I said to myself, that can't possibly be the problem. So I decided to come here for solutions. I even did an "Everest scan".

    So, after searching and searching, I have found several threads on several forums just like this one. But, none of them seem to solve my problem:( Even on the Everest scan, which is attached below, it does not detect my network adapter. Somebody HELP!!!! In advance, thank you, and I apologize for any miss-pellings, as I am only 14 and I wrote this very quickly. I believe the solution to my problem is to either install Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, or somehow find the proper drivers needed. Thanks again!

    You need to install your chipset, audio drivers etc. for your motherboard, you can get these at the site at whoever made your motherboard. Install and reboot, everything should work now, If you're still missing something then go back and install them as well. You wiped them out when you installed W7. Strange that W7 didn't install generic drivers though.:confused

    EDIT: tHAT'S AN OLD MACHINE, i HOPE THE DRIVERS ARE THERE.

    @augiedoggie

    Thanks for your help! Looking at the Everest Scan, would I be able to find out whoever made my motherboard? If you know, could you please tell me how I could find out who made the motherboard if it is not found on the Everest Scan?

    It says it's an AOpen. Go there and enter in the model #.

    Thanks man. I am doing so right now and moving the files to a flash drive. The only question I have though, is that none of these really support windows 7... Should I be worried about that or is there an updated form of these drivers? On the site there seems to be none... http://usa.aopen.com/download.aspx

    I was kinda worried about that too but Vista drivers should work if available. Maybe try and install XP drivers in compatibility mode but I'm not confident that would work. Other than that, I have no idea. I hope someone else can help you better.

    http://drivermax.com/ can help you identify unknown devices, and find/install drivers for them.

    Use the free version that allows up to two driver downloads per day.

    Did you install the 64-bit version of Windows 7? There may not be any 64-bit drivers for older devices.

    Before I'd consider upgrading a computer, I'd check if there were Win 7 drivers available. If the manufacturer doesn't support Windows 7 on your computer, it isn't a great idea to install it.

    Thanks for your help guys! I pretty much did everything I could but I couldn't quite get it to work:( But, on the upside, I bought the newest netgear adapter, the WG311v3 which I believe is compatible with Windows 7. I also got it for only 10 bucks on ebay! Hopefully, I can somehow unplug the existing adapter and plug this one in, install the proper drivers, and wala, have working internet. Wish me luck!
