    Hello,

I have a problem with getting on an internet from my other wired ethernet computer, which is wired into my router. My other computers have full access that are wired and wireless. I presently have xp professional, 64 bit due to a hard drive failure as this computers hdd was replaced by a hard drive with a pre-installed o/s (XP professional) and not vista as the original O/S that was manufactured with. I do not have a backup cd/dvd of any kind, but my computer is a HP Pavilion Media Center m8200n Desktop PC.

I also have no sound drivers loaded as well as the network drivers or adapters.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

So under Network Adapter there is not yellow exclamation mark? When you right click Network Adapter and select properties, it say that the device is operating normally?

the network adapter icon states it is working properly. I also noticed that the icon in the task bar states it is connected, but if i unplug the ethernet cord, an unplugged cord message is not displayed.

    thanks for your help:cry

Can you try another Ethernet cable if available?

Okay, If you already did that, then I can assume you tried a different port on the router, correct?

    Have you installed SP3?

In Local Area Connection Properties is tcp/ip installed? If not install it.

If it is installed try resetting tcp/ip as follows.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357

    Then try resetting Winsock.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811259

If that does not resolve the problem, I would look at the following.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314067

Also I would post the problem in the Networking Forum as somebody there will have more knowledge about this than me. Hopefully somebody can resolve the problem.

Try powering down entire network and power up in sequence, modem then router then comp waiting for each to connect completely.
Are you using a third party firewall? If so, check that the windows firewall is off. Also try disabling firewall for a short time to test connectivity.
Have you tried booting into Safe Mode with Networking - F8 at boot up? Any difference?

Thanks for the input, I have tried powered down the router and computer and powered back up, my router has a built in modem so all in one but no difference. firewall is off and i am not using any third party software.

I have tried safe mode with networking but am I looking for an exact thing such as networking. this only shows MSN networking.

    Thanks

Is there any internet security software of third party firewall installed on the computer? If so, I would try disabling or uninstalling and see if you can connect.

There is no internet security software installed on this computer, I uninstalled this when I first encountered the problems.

I have ordered a windows 7 home premium full installation dvd to replace my existing XP Professional edition on my hdd.

    thanks everyone for the help
