Hello I'm in need of some assistance, I have 2 computers that are wireless. One of them is a laptop and the other one is a desktop, with the laptop I'm able to connect to the internet with no problem.

The desktop on the other hand is a different story ie: when i try to connect to either firefox or internet explorer nothing happens, no window saying you may have a problem with an internet connection...nothing... just an houglass symbol that goes out after about 10-20 seconds of me clicking on a browser.

The desktop had run somewhat slow for the past few months but it has never failed to make a connection no matter what...and I've had a few viruses over the last 7 years that MG's has helped me with.

I just got off the phone with my cable provider and I could ping through my desktop just fine but the window/internet wouldn't come up, the rep suggested I uninstall norton which I did and it didn't help either.

The rep suggested I may have a problem with Norton firewall which I don't think I did, and she suggested I may have a virus. I wanted to check it here (malware forum) but there is no way I can connect to the internet to go through any of the procedures....I'm completely stuck on this any help would be appreciated.

    Peace :cool

Then download the tools needed using the laptop and transfer them onto the desktop. Then attach all of the requested logs.

After I made my initial post I got to thinking and tried my wife's account (on the very same desktop), and bingo I could get on internet explorer and firefox.

So reluctantly I logged off of her account and logged on my account and tried internet explorer and it worked but firefox still didn't (this was about 3 hours ago)

I just came back home and tried my account and I was able to get on firefox and internet explorer with no problem..???

There was a very bad storm while I was away from home I wonder if that could've been the culprit affecting the modem?

My question is if this happens again how would I be able to transfer the download tools from my laptop to the desktop? I've never done such a thing (I'm a novice)

And would you recommend me, since my desktop is now able to get internet access..to go ahead and do the "read/run malware removal guide just to make sure everythings ok?

    Peace :cool

You could use a flashdrive or a disk perhaps.
If you feel you would like to then yes. If you feel your computer is acting strangely then yes. If you just want to be safe, and have me check, then yes, feel free to. :)
