Problem: Had 7210 all-in-one installed and working. Also wished to install officejet 4500 series wireless. It installed ok but there were errors copying the 7210 into the new solution center and it no longer worked. I tried to reinstall the 7210 but I could only get the basic print driver to work and I really need scanning. I decided to uninstall all HP, which I thought I did, but now the reisntall of 7210 produces message "a more recent version of this product is already installed".

So far I have used Revo Uninstaller at level 4 to get rid of all HP related items and deleted every possible registry key that it suggested. I also ran CCleaner as a follow up and deleted many more registry keys. I cleaned up the spooler. I can see nothing left relating to HP. I also wiped all free space and rebooted several times but I still keep getting that same message about a more recent version being installed.

I'm at my wits end! Does anybody have any suggestions? I have considered reinstalling XP operating system but I do not have an installation CD to do so. The system is XP SP 3.

Call HP as they will walk you through it.
I did not catch how new the machine is. I got a new all in one and the tech set up my wireless as opose to usb connection and it is great to print from latop.

reinstall the officejet 4500 series wireless drivers/software and setup printing.
    power down
    connect the 7210
power up and reinstall the drivers/software for it.
    setup printing

Thanks, it was a good idea but it only partially worked. The 4500 installed ok and when I rebooted with the 7210 plugged in it did recognize it and try to install it. I was able to install the usb print driver but the other software will not install because it thinks there is a new version of it already on the computer (there isn't).

So I can print to it but I have no scanning capabilites.

    Hi,
I had a similar problem with my Epson printer and in the end I did a complete uninstall, wiping everything off the registry. First of all I removed the program and then deleted the file from start list. Then I used Revo and CCleaner and followed it up with Your Uninstaller. Then I went to Registry and removed all the entries in the Software file including the files under HK Local Machine>software> Epson and WOW6432>Epson. Then in HK Classes Root went down to Epson and deleted all the files I found and rebooted. This was the only way I could get rid of the pesky thing. I did a system restore point first and also backed up the Registry but it all worked out okay. Experts on the forum may have better advice for you, I can only say what worked for me.

    >>I'm sorry to pester but am curious as to how old the machine is?
Contrary to other's misfortunes, I have had success with HP and asked you if you had called support.
I was pretty proficient with the old but was stuck with the new one when trying to get ethernet working.
Hp support really was surprisingly quick, proficient and got it done.
Give them a ring if under warranty and if not, ask for help and maybe they will point tyou in the right direction. It may be something they see every day that you are missing.
    Only a suggestion.

    I think the 7210 is from 2006. The 4500 is from 2010.

I think the problem might be the scanning part. You can install more than one printer but I don't think a computer will allow you to install 2 printer/scanner combos with different versions of the HP software to use all the functions of all-in-ones.

I saw a similar thread where someone was trying to use two Canon scanners on one computer and Canon support said no, it can't be done.

Pick one of your all-in-ones and install that. If it dies, uninstall it and install the other one.

    Hi Guys,

I really don't know the exact age of the 7210 and the computer is circa 2006 although it has had a CPU and motherboard upgrade since then. I really have no faith in HP tech and I'm sure this is computer specific but there is a chance I could get help.

The computer I really would like to have working is the 7210 because it is within arm's reach. The 4500 is networked and at the other end of the room.

It is possible to have 2 printers to choose from under Solution Center because I also have an Acer TravelMate 4060 that I have done the exact same install on and it works perfectly for either printer. The Acer is also XP SP3 (although Professional instead of Home) and IE8. The offending machine has tons of HD space and memory and plenty of CPU power.

I do think to get this working I have to uninstall the 4500 and all components to it and completely wipe out the registry and all traces of the 7210 and reinstall the 7210 1st then the 4500 so that it will push everything up into the new Solution Center. Again, if it worked on the Acer it should work here.

I thought I had cleaned the registry well enough after the problems started but maybe I missed something. I saw some keys in there yesterday that still had values for 2 other pirnters that had been on it sometime in the past. Is there anybody out there that thinks that the 7210 software might be looking someplace else other than the registry to see if a newer version of software already exists?

    Thanks for your thoughts folks.

try going to printer in control panel and manually add the printer as there may be a windows entry for it.

I had this problem when I tried to install my HP8100 home printer on my laptop, and then my work 7210 model stopped working. Fooled around with the basic driver for about three hours. The only way I got it to work was to uninstall as much as I could, and then download the FULL 400+MB software package from HP, and then that installed everything without the "more recent software" message. Hope that helps.

Problem solved! After deleting all registry keys relating to HP and having no success, I started studying the log files the HP installation software creates. There were no obvious errors listed but it did list the CDGUID and software GUID. I decided to search the registry for these values and low and behold the CGUID value turned up in the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ICE\DoNotInstall. I deleted that value, rebooted the machine, and started the software install and it WORKED!

I am assuming that the 4500 install caused this key value to be created. It's a shame that the uninstall does not take care of undoing it. Wow! What a waste of time but what a relief.

Thanks to all who took the time to respond and provide suggestions.
