Hey in the past i remember you having a kindle, and im current considering buying one. I read mostly at night and when im at work waiting for something exciting to happen lol. Been looking at the Kindle 3G, Free 3G + Wi-Fi, 3G Works Globally, Graphite, 6" Display with New E Ink Pearl Technology - includes Special Offers & Sponsored Screensavers version for 139 but im not sure how annoying the special offers are and or will be, I understand to read in the dark i would need a light to read the kindle, and am considering the case that is lighted, but my question relates more to the 3g feature. How much do you find your self using 3g to get books? Im pretty sure i can get by on wifi only but wanted to here some real world thoughts on this.

    Hey Cman

I absolutely positively love my kindle. I use their 3G all the time to be honest. I have the original one still so actually I don't have Wireless. Even if I did, though, it would be worth it, imo, to have the 3G. For me, anyway. I use it when I travel...in airports, hotels, beach, etc. where you may not have a free wireless connection.

If you are places where you always have wireless, I wouldn't worry too much about it, though. You could just load up on books when you have access. I'm not sure how much you save without the 3G

I see people who are swearing by the iPad, but I have to say, I see them trying to read outside and it's laughable. The commercial does not exaggerate. It has such a glare, as do a lot of the eReaders. There are probably some out there that don't now.

The kindle is exactly like reading a normal book. You do need an external light if you don't have natural lighting. There is no backlight at all.

The battery lasts probably two weeks depending on how much you read.

    I would highly recommend it.

Btw, this is all based on the first generation Kindle. I'm sure they've gotten better. I looked up the E Ink. Looks like they've improved on that too.

Sony is just about to release their new generation of eReader, if you ware willing to wait for one of those. I love my Sony eReader... the site I linked to, btw, has a table that lets you compare eReaders side by side and compare features.

The one I have, the PRS-950, has a built-in store that runs on 3G, and I use it a ton.

Also, Laura is right, recent eInk displays are ridiculously improved over the 1st gen ones. :)

Im pretty set on the kindle, a couple sites have had little wizard run throughs to determine best device for a person and i always up at kindle, whats with the support offers thing tho? I dont really know if i should use that feature to get it cheaper or if it will just end up annoying me.

If the Kindle is what will fit you best, by all means get the Kindle! :) I found this article, that describes what kinds of ads they use, and how intrusive they are. There are screenshots as well. Hopefully that helps a bit.

Looks like you'd save $50 on the 3G Kindle for the ads. Honestly, as long as it's not on the pages you are reading, I can't imagine it would be a big deal. I rarely have my home page on unless I'm looking for a book I've downloaded, and you really don't pay much attention to the screen saver.

Well after a long night of being bored at work, im wondering if an android tablet + kindle app would be a better solution lol.

As long as you don't mind glare from backlighting you can get the kindle app on anything. :)

The kindle feels more like reading a book rather than looking at a computer screen.

LOVE my Kindle, but you have 2 things to consider.

No backlight so for night reading you need a light. I bought a Belkin.

I put Kindle on my iPhone and now my wife uses my Kindle. I have no need for it anymore, the phone app works great and is backlit. I take my phone anywhere so I can stop and read anywhere even for a minute or two. I would never had bought the Kindle had I tried the phone app. I bet it would be even better on a larger screened droid.

Same here. The Kindle is one of the best gadgets i have. And i also have the kindle app on my iphone and just love the way its syncs and finds the furthest place you have read up to. So between the Kindle and the app on the iphone, i always have a book with me....I also have the kindle app on my ipad 2 but thats not as portable (for me at least).
