    Hello,
You note you have SP2. This does not support HD audio which is what your computer has. I would definitely upgrade to SP3 and install all security updates first. Then, download this driver and install.

If you want to maintain SP2 which I strongly advise against, you can download and install the Microsoft UAA patch first and then the above driver.

If you are talking about SP3 you can do it through Microsoft Update. If that is the method you used before and could not boot after the install then you can download and install the full install here.

    http://majorgeeks.com/Microsoft_Windows_XP_Service_Pack_3_d4323.html

Edit: Yes, there was a problem with AMD on certain machines, but I believe that was sorted out a long time ago. I have an AMD processor and have had no problems with SP3.

Here is the article on that.

    http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Windows-XP-SP3,5334.html

You can run this fix before the SP3 install.

Can you try installing the UAA patch I linked to and then the driver.

Also, do you have any yellow exclamation marks in Device Manager?

As far as the SP3 not installing, was this the full install or through Microsoft Update?

Edit: Did you try to install the driver I linked to or your original driver?

Try doing it in Microsoft Update. It may go better. I am not sure why you do not have sound with no yellow exclamation marks in Device Manager. Can you run dxdiag. Start>Run "dxdiag" (no quotes) and see what if any errors there are regarding sound.

Download the driver I linked to in post #2. One thing I noticed is the specs on your computer mention a Realtek chip but in your youtube video when you open up Sounds in Control Panel and Soundmax Integrated Audio is shown under the hardware tab. Not sure about that. Do you have anything in Add/Remove programs that says "Soundmax"?

  11. mgl4ever933

    mgl4ever933 Private E-2

UUA is for only SP1 and SP2

and there is no SoundMax, but i found there is
    Sonic RecordNow Audio
    Sonic RecordNow Copy
    Sonic RecordNow Data

This is the driver in post #2. by realtek. Does it install for you.

Edit:When you expand Sound,Volume, and Game Controllers do you see anything mentioned like Soundmax?

As in my previous post, in Device Manager, do you see anything called Soundmax under Sounds?

In Device Manger select View>Show Hidden Devices. Are there any exclamation marks under Hidden Devices?

Check your BIOS and see if there is anything that relates to enabling Onboard Sound.

If the above does not show anything related to Soundmax, please Uninstall the Realtek Driver in Add/Remove Programs. Then Download Drive Sweeper and Run in an Admin account. Delete anything related to Sound only and then try to reinstall the sound driver.

If this does not work, I am not sure what your problem is. Somebody here may also jump in to help. It may be a defective sound chip. If you want sound, I would recommend a new sound card.

Edit: After you installed the driver, if you go into Control Panel>Sounds , can you select a playback device or is it still greyed out?

Just to be sure, I did not get confirmation on the BIOS question. Did you go into BIOS and check to see if Onboard Audio was enabled as referenced in the link iain.t posted?

Ok, so we now know we are defenatly dealing with on board sound!!! I need for you to open the case, taking all the precautions of removing the power source(kettle lead)and press and hold the power on button for at least 30sec's, ground yourself to dissapate any static you may be holding, this is very important as static shock will kill your machine!!!! touch a tap or radiator. Take a look at the image and tell "EXACTLY" what is written on both of those chips circled.

Onboard Audio was Auto so i changed to it Enabled

Jain i dont want to mess with that, if i **** up my computer than i have to go to computer fix, ill just go to one of those shops who fix computer and buy sound card and stuff. maybe ill try that.

Here is the latest driver for your vid card....

    http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp-280.26-whql-driver.html

you don't need to touch anything inside your tower, all you need to do is take a look inside, shine a torch onto the area where the audio chips are and take a note of what is written on them, you cannot do any damage by just taking a look ok ;).
Was the audio set to auto in the bios?? and you changed it to enabled?? has it made any difference do you get any sound at all?? any windows log on sound or the like??

  23. mgl4ever933

    mgl4ever933 Private E-2

yep it was on auto, i cahgned it to enabled and it didnt made any difference.

*Note: The following SLI features are only supported on Windows Vista and Windows 7: Quad SLI technology, 3-way SLI technology, Hybrid SLI, and SLI multi-monitor support.

it says that only supported on Vista and Windows.

    iain.t MajorGeek

Still install it as it is the latest version for your card, the sli features are only for vista and win7 machines and will not effect your machine.

I think that you may be looking at having to buy a sound card for your system, as we have exhausted all avenues to remedy your issue, it is more than likely that the onboard card has failed :cry. You can pick a decent one up now for just a few dollars/pounds, you will either need a AGP/PCi or PCi 2x16 type of card, personally I would opt for a AGP card then that would leave the PCi 2x16 slot for further future enhancements.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chaintech-G...550?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash=item27be35f846

this is the type I would go for!! Perfect for your set up!!
