What's Internet Explorer??? Just kidding. :-D
Been using Firefox as long as I can remember on all of the comps in my household.
Tried a few versions of IE, but always went back to FF.

I used to be a firefox user but I now use Google Chrome all the time. I thought I'd download it just to see what it was like....without any intention of using it all the time and now I barely use firefox. Its much faster and more user friendly I would argue.
    Sorry Firefox! :)

Kind of offtopic but seeing the topic raised this question to my mind, which browser takes the least memory? ;o

    OT: About time.

I'm using Google's Chrome, however I'm not concerned with memory use, better than FF though. I like the performance. Lots of folks like Opera for it's small footprint.

Firefox's memory is about to be improved in version 7, to be released Sept 27. https://wiki.mozilla.org/Features/Release_Tracking#Firefox_7

Firefox is my favorite browser as it is much more versatile than other browsers. It can be tweaked to your liking and one can choose from thousands of extensions (addons)

There are many discussions in MozillaZine forums about Firefox and Chrome memory usage and one thing is clear is that Chrome uses a lot more memory compared to Firefox, especially with only a few extensions and many tabs open.

I also use Palemoon browser, a bit faster than Firefox and consider it as a backup of Firefox. http://www.palemoon.org/ Most Firefox extensions work in Palemoon as well and the developer recently created a forum.

Sitting and waiting oma. In my experience, they still have memory creep. I obviously have plenty of memory but when FF got over 500MB, the whole machine was crippled.

Chrome might use more memory in total but every tab is a separate process, thereby not blocking itself like FF does.

Yeah, I know that Chrome uses separate processes for each tab while Firefox uses a single executable instance to run all tabs.

However, since Chrome uses a separate process for each tab which seems nice, it sucks the life out of an old processor (such as mine) with the *overhead* of all those separate processes. Therefore, I usually I don't have more than 5 tabs running in Fx.

@augie: does Fx crash on you or something else? If so there is a knowledge base for troubleshooting, category issues. Link to it says connection failed. :(

It doesn't crash, just slows the whole system down to the speed of flowing frozen molasses, and I mean everything! Don't even try to launch something new when it's having a hissy fit.rolleyes Cross platform, new OS too with default installs. I've had enough!

Got no clue why you're having those issues while my XP Home is running fine, but I understand you must be very frustrated and will leave you alone augie. ;)

However, for anyone else who is interested in finding out when having a Firefox fit, here's a link to troubleshoot most issues. http://kb.mozillazine.org /Category:Issues_%28Firefox%29
Hehe, link is working this time around.

Although this refers to Opera, there is an explanation HERE about the differences between threads and processes.

Reply to ruppana, as stated, slightly off topic. :)

FWIW, Opera Version 11.50, Build 1074, Platform Win32, System Windows 7 Ultimate OS, usage with 4 MG tabs open.

    See Windows Task Manager thumbnail.

I dont know what folk are looking at but the graphs that this site lists are looking like IE has 4% vs Fx at 31% and hardly a overtake worldwide??

Europe wise its within a 1 +/- % margin and does that mean much, stats like this are no better or worse than the market analysts that predicts stock prices!

Have to love it when the stat site is giving this message out

reading in the stats if you need too n which I hate is that Chrome is the biggest gainer of all IE has dropped a lot, Fx is stagnant growth and Chrome has gained a huge % point on both of them, BUT is it better? or is it a placebo effect to security message that is null an void when most malware is downloaded by the user b clicking a site or DL via any browser as its not going to protect you.
