    I often keep useful tips that appear here but when I paste them to Word the khaki background persists. How do you remove it?

    EDIT - OK, found the Clear Formatting button.

    when you open word 2007 first click on the tab at the top "Page layout" and then in the box on the left click "colors" and when tha box opens with all the color layouts at the bottom you will see "create a new theme colors" using that you can tell Word to do it all in black and white.

    I think it's actually quicker just to use the Clear Formatting button Bill, but that's another way, yes.

    I have copied and pasted from websites to Word many times and I've never seen background color carried over to Word, so your experience with this seems strange. Anyway, have you tried using Paste Special and selecting the Unformatted Text option? Seems to me that's what you should be doing.

    Here's your last post c&p'd to a blank document. If Word 2007 does offer paste special it's certainly well hidden. On a right click all you get is Paste.

    EDIT - Paste Special is there, on the ribbon. It only gives two options and both produce the same result as the attached pic.

    If you C&P from other websites, with other color backgrounds, does the same thing happen? In other words, does the background color from that website get carried over to Word?

    I see white space between the lines in the images you posted in your initial post and in reply #7. That seems to indicate that Word is applying a Text Highlight Color using the background color of the web page. This is a different perspective than what I initially thought; copying the page background color as a solid background would not leave white space between the lines.

    I'm thinking maybe you should delete your normal.dotm template and let Word create a new one. This may be helpful: http://forums.techarena.in/office-setup/907857.htm.

    Thanks usaf. Busy on another forum just now but I'll take a look at that later. Don't use Word that much but like you, I do like things right.

    @usaf - you were absolutely right! Deleting normal.dotm has sorted it and I now have an Unformatted Text and other options available in Paste Special. All I have to do now is remember not to just right click > Paste ;)

    Earthling, I think you'd like having a quick way to use the PasteSpecial | Text command. I have a macro for the Copy/PasteSpecial | Text command sequence. Along with the macro, I have a custom button on my Word 2007 Quick Access Toolbar and that button is linked to the macro. This allows me to simply click on the custom button to execcute PasteSpecial | Text. An image of my Quick Access Toolbar is attached. The button on the right end of the toolbar is the one assigned to the macro. The image also shows the tip box which says "PasteText" when I hover my mouse over that button.

    It's been quite a long time since I added the macro and added the button on the Quick Access Toolbar for this, so my memory on setting this up has faded. I was just looking for some references. Here's one which gives some info but you need more info that it provides in order to accomplish this. I've also seen references on adding a Paste|Text command to the right click menu, and on creating a keyboard shortcut to a macro. So, there are several ways to accomplish a quicker execution of Paste|Text. Note: I'm using Paste|Text to mean the same as PasteSpecial|Text

    My macro looks like this:

    Sub PasteText()
    '
    ' PasteText Macro
    '
    On Error Resume Next
    Selection.PasteSpecial DataType:=wdPasteText
    End Sub

    Thanks for the macro suggestion usaf but I'm going to give bigbazza's suggestion of Zulupad a whirl. Sounds perfect for the sort of notes I tend to keep.

    It is a hell of a lot easier to use, to C&P info/tips/tricks/traps. :-D
    As I mentioned in the other link, not much typing involved.

    Here's another alternative.
