I use Firefox almost exclusively, and I've been getting a lot of ads wanting me to switch from FF5 to the new FF6.

My experience has been that that kind of version jump invariably brings loads and loads of new bugs to fight with.

Is there something super wonderful about Version 6 that would make the bugs worth dealing with right away instead of waiting a while, hoping for a higher level of robustness?

(If anyone wants to explain why they start from scratch every so often you can do that too.)

Firefox have now started the annoying system of upping the version a number instead of leaving it as V5.1.03 and then going to V5.1.04 for the later update.

I use Palemoon v6.2 and Firefox v6.2 and both work fine on my Win7 machines.

Just update/upgrade when it suggests, you should be OK. The odd Addon may not work for a while but all mine are now functioning.

I agree. I have Firefox v6.2 on my Win XP and Win Vista machines and have had no problems with it.

New version every 6 weeks. Version 7 should be pushed to us in a week or two. I can't explain the logic in that because it fails to escape me.
I've used FF since pre version 1 and I want to dump it but unfortunately, I haven't found anything I feel comfortable with. I have Iron Browser and Sea Monkey on a USB stick, testing them. I tried Chromium on a USB stick. I have google chrome installed on my XP test system. I have IE 8 (last version 2K can run) and IE 9 installed. I had Opera installed on one of the computers. I really don't care for any of them.

Install the latest version of FF because other than v3, none of the others get security patches. (You could install v 3.6 http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-older.html) I do not want to surf using a browser that has security holes. Small consolation but v6 has been horrid for me. I get lots of "not responding" messages. I get tabs breaking off and opening in a new window. I never had this bizarre behavior before.
Someone suggested my profile was corrupt and I should do a clean install. I disagreed because I got a new netbook, did not import anything and FF behaves the same on the netbook at one particular site.

Sorry to hear of your problems with v6 of Firefox, plodr.
I have had it since I was first offered the upgrade and not had any snags with it except for, I think, one of my Addons was not compatible but it is now. Not even sure which one it was but they are all working now except Java Console. Not too sure what that did anyway and I think Java added it as I didn't.

Never had a problem with all versions of Fx. Here's a link to tell you how to remove Java Console. http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2175305

Weellll, if it's so full of holes I don't really see how yet another version number would solve that.

I get FF's not responding billboards constantly, because my anti-malware is extremely good at blocking bad sites. It looks to me like they would give you a choice whether you wanted to slam on the brakes and stare at an error billboard ever few minutes. If 6 is worse about that - yeeecccchhhhh!

The problem for me is I'm not on a bad site because I have MBAM blocking me from stumbling into those.
The not responding happens constantly on a forum where I am an admin and I'm trying to remove spam posts, ban the spammers and censor words so any one who looks at posts doesn't have to read words not fit for young readers.
