    Hey Guys,
My dad has thrown around the idea of a better rig for some time. So I decided I'd try my hand at throwing one together.

Please let me know if this will work together(what I would need to change). To be honest this is the first time I've attempted this. I don't even know if it would get ordered and built just wanted to give him something to look at for now. He wants it relatively cheap so that's what I went for. He just wants to surf the web and watch videos and that nothing to major.

Now off to work so can't look properly but Why is that CPU so expensive? Gold plated?

Thats nearly as much as I'm looking to drop on a phenom 2 X6.

I'm starting to think my knowledge of all things hardware is out dated, maybe have to do some reading again.

I don't really know why it's that expensive. I didn't see anything on gold plating. But then again I put that together at 2 this morning.

Ya on the CPU man, that's just insane for a dualie that's really old tech. ! Check out the Hexacore Thuban 1100T or if you want to go Intel then go for a quad i5 all for about the same price. Sorry but you have to scrap your first idea.;)

BTW, the graphics card is nuts, why half-height?

You may as well get W7 x64 as it works with everything I've got.

That's Alright I'm learning. I'm not even sure of how much he would want to spend on a new rig. He doesn't want to break the bank though.
    What else should I change?

The budget determines the rig specs, you can't get much more inexpensive unless you go to Dell or some such corp.(or crap rolleyes:-D) $550 is a nice price point for future defense , especially if you can reuse your case, drives etc.

I don't like PSU's that are included with a bargain basement case, they are crap!

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

Agreed: that kind of jumped out at me. The 32-bit is just too restrictive as far as future RAM upgrades are concerned.

The only reason I was gonna use te 32-bit was because I have it already. Save a bit of $$. ;)

Works for me Spockster.;) Not much SW out there that needs more than 3 gigs anyways, if any.

If that's all he's going to do with it then you could grab a nice little simple Phenom/Athlon X2 for like $50-80.

Hell, realistically speaking if he's just a web browser the most cost effective way to do it is to buy a pre-build from your local store.
I just grabbed one for my boss, Athlon X3, 4GB RAM, 1TB HDD and WIn7 for $320CAD.

IF however you want to play and build one then you really don't need anything heavy weight.

I agree with Auggie, $500 is a nice price to sit at for a PC that will last a web browser a few years, but even that is overkilling.
Having said THAT, if he wants to drop $500 then it's worth doing.

Thank you. As I said this may just be him "talking" I don't know for sure. So I don't know if it will even ever be built. Thank you guys again. :)
