Why do "Big" stars ruin songs?

Just flicking around youtube and came across this.

Now, in my opinion this is a classic song that is just a blood pumper.... unless performed like this.

Sting, Springsteen, Lady Gagidiot, Shirley Bassey and elton John.

I have been a great Neil Diamond fan for more years than i care to remember, he did a concert Antwerp this year in June and although i had tickets i was too sick to go so i missed a chance to see him live :cry

 

Some folks do proper justice making a cover and at times are way better than the original, depends on one's taste. One example is 'All Along the Watchtower' originally written by Bob Dylan but it became Hendrix's signature song IMO.

Then there's the horrible remakes and the Lawrence Welk show was very popular in the 70's for older folks. "Now here's an inspirational song done by ..." Notice the cough? roflmao

Oh don't get me wrong, some covers are awesome. Auggie gave possibly the single best example in All Along The Watchtower.
Another one IMO is Live and Let Die, GnR over Wings.

But when I saw the link for the first vid I posted I was kind of excited, "Quite a spectacle" I thought.... nightmare more like.
