Did I find a fake MajorGeeks award?

Could someone confirm whether the MajorGeeks award found on the following site is fake or not?

    http://www.wavmp3.net/

When I click on the award, instead of taking me to majorgeeks.com, it just starts downloading a file.

I searched Majorgeeks for this product and I do not find it.

    Is it a fake award?

I don't know, but let me ask Tim about it. Will let you know. ;)

Thanks it's today's giveaway at GOTD. Many of their giveaways use fake awards and when I couldn't find the product here I became suspicious.

I look forward to learning what Tim has to say.

Not sure when he may log on, but you can always download it and run a few scans on the download before you install it.

To be honest, it looks like the spam we delete a lot of here. We get a lot of the 'this type of file converted to this type of file spam' and that may be one of them.

I downloaded it and scanned it with BitDefender Security 2012 and it showed to be clean.
I like to know if a publisher is being honest and this has sketchy written all over it. I'm sure there are a lot of decent programs written by good people but then the programs get in the hands of sleazy marketers and wed developers.
I'll check this thread periodically. If it's not a genuine award I will write a review at Web of Trust reflecting the issue.

Thanks. Jotti.org and virustotal.com are great sites. If I owned either one I would offer a 'premium service' in which people could pay for the ability to scan very large files and maybe a faster scan, too if that was possible.

The problem with GOTD is the setup.exe is a partial file that downloads activation components and sometime additional files. The end product is sometimes a special edition just for that giveaway. It's rare but a malicious file gets past them 2 or 3 times a year despite their insistence that their malware checkers are flawless.

Like I wrote earlier, my concern is about the company's ethics regarding the Major Geeks Award more than the product, although a safe file is more important.

Yup, fake the buttons link to their file, not us. Thanks!
