My New PC "Issues" (Problems), please...?

I hope the screen-shots will speak for themselves here...it's a HELLUVA lot easier than trying to articulate (type) all of this....

    1. Could the "Failed" Updates have been included in a later, differently named Update, please?

    2. What the "HECK" can I do about THIS?? I don't know what I "need" starting-up here (and have always kept my machines down to 3, maybe 4 or 5
programs loading at start), and I'm having trouble getting Defender to opening-up - maybe because I'm using MS-Security Essentials which stops Defender from running?

    3. Does this appear to be a "FULL" back-up ("image"... and is "image" the same as "back-up"?) on this two-week-old machine, please?

    4. And this is "what" was "backed-up", ON my small-ish external Hard Drive. I don't know if I need to back-up more, yet (?), Drivers and such to CD/DVD, and lastly, this machine came with a Trial of "Asus Web-Storage"...can I use that (at least for the duration of the trial, maybe longer if it's worth purchase), to do EVERYTHING I need to do? I've opened it up, but it seems complex to me...I have NO CLUE how to utilize it (I "think" it's a '60-Day' Trial?).

    Thanks in advance,
    glenn . . .

Check if the sp1 installed or not by going to computer/right click / properties. if there is nothing stated about sp1 then you can try to download the offline sp1 installer.

    2. Look at your startup list again. 6 of the items show Run Once that's part of cleanup from updating. My netbook, without bluetooth (one of your items is bluetooth) has 9 items running and it is fine. You have 10 items. One of the items (Trend Micro) is probably trialware. Did you remove it?
    3. My netbook has 50GB used. When I deduct 24GB for the movies I've installed on it, that leaves 26GB so a 24.15GB seems reasonable for a new netbook. (Note: I dso not use windows 7 backup; I still prefer making images using Acronis.)
    4. Did you create the restore/recovery DVDs and driver CD?
Every computer I've purchased since 2008, gives a description of how to make my own disks. I've have done this even before I start uninstalling software and choosin what I want to install.

Thank you very much for the response...you mean such as this (screen-shot attached), correct?

Wow, great plodr...thank you very much for the response...

Sorry I'm not understanding, but are you saying it's fine to lose (stop) the "Run Once" items please?

Yes, Trend Micro was Trialware, and removed (I was hoping to try it out, give it a whirl, and see how it worked for me, however, the reviews/ratings I skimmed-through didn't seem very good, admittedly in a rather "quick" search, so I removed it).

I haven't made (and cannot produce) restore/recovery DVDs and driver CD('s) until I can afford the equipment to do so, as I have no disk-drive built-into this machine (fortunately, I do have some still in the box, brand-new disks...I think both CD's AND DVD's! YAY! FOR ONCE I HAVE SOMETHING "ahead of time"!). It will be about two weeks before I can afford whatever equipment that I'll need...

Also apologetic for not understanding/knowing if I "need" Bluetooth starting-up every time or not, please?

Lastly, I am VERY concerned, and will need too MAX my RAM asap, as I have ALREADY gotten a WIN-Warning that I was 'running-low on memory' (?!?)...I do tend to keep-open TOO MANY tabs and programs, etc. simultaneously, however, that's just me and how I've become accustomed to working...funny thing is, I do "NOT" play any games, of any sort, so this is troubling...So me the tabs are ultimately of video it seems, and I try to jump in and "Pause" them, but, well...I've planned to MAX-out the RAM (4GB) since before I bought the machine anyway happy to be able to perform this myself.

    THANKS AGAIN PLODR~!!!~
PS ~ I am sure Acronis is GREAT, as you and many others here utilize it...

SP1 is installed at your computer so no need to worry about it. You have 64bit operating system running so you will get huge of benefits by running with 4GB RAM.

I cant help you with back up process because I use norton ghost for backing up my hard drive never use windows. I always found the windows back up software or disk burner software confusing and slow. So I suggest you to use use free 3rd party software. Here is the link to check some of the free ones. My suggestion is PARAGON seems like it is useful and easy to use.

Don't touch them; maybe a restore point needs the info. Just know that even though CCleaner shows all those startup items, only 9 of them are active.

Thanks very much BoneXXX, I do hope to be able to afford to go up to FULL 4Gig RAM in the next few weeks. I think my greatest hope before I do is to be able to find an exact match to whatever brand Asus placed in this machine. I suppose going-back to them would ensure this, though I SERIOUSLY doubt that they would be my best price deal on RAM...?

Thank you again very much for your time and efforts.

Plodr thank you so very much as always...my understanding has long been not to stop ("Disable") any Startups in ccleaner or anywhere else as long as I had WIN-Defender to handle the job, and I shall "not touch" as you recommend here, however, I may very well need to stop something in the future, and am not sure if Defender is still the path for me in 7 as it was in Vista?

I do know it's a bit more complicated now, due to the fact that I've opted (at least for now) to run MSE for spy and virus protection.

MSE seems to really put the ol' kabash (?) on access to Defender...?

you can see the brand and what type of RAM you got by the freeware software called PC Wizard, so you dont need to open the computer case.

By design, MSE disables Windows Defender upon installation.

BoneXXX - thanks very much, as usual/always.

Not sure if you were aware that 'PC Wizard' is also offered here-->http://majorgeeks.com/PC_Wizard_d3846.html - GREAT idea for for not cracking-open the case (I've used these type of programs before and they're great for getting to know our machines. In the past I've used "Belarc Advisor" http://majorgeeks.com/download1385.html but I will check PC-Wiz, perhaps I'll like it better...?

Last question on this...is this your understanding as well, that it is in fact absolutely best to match all RAM - EXACTLY? And do you know how big of a deal it is, if it's not matched? I mean, I've been installing RAM in my machines for years, but only in the last years read that it's best to match all sticks. I wonder how much performance is lost by using different brands...?

Thanks, I'm familiar with and like PCDecrapifier, however, Defender is already disabled by virtue of me using Microsoft's Security Essentials program . . . I would like to occasionally EN-able it, unless someone knows a better method of managing Start-up's in WIN7??

Yes, thanks...as I mentioned above, I was aware of that...thanks just the same!

It would be good to match the RAM sticks by getting the same brand but the more important thing is matching the same properties such as timing/voltage and frequency. You can get a good trustable brand RAM with same properties. That would be better to see what you have and then purchase a same type RAM. To do that check your RAM properties the software that I suggested before and then look for RAM companies web sites to see the technical specs of RAM.

But how you are going to plug the RAM, you have to open it in some point. Will you take it to ASUS service?

    Very good, thank you sir.

I absolutely doubt I will pay Asus to do much of anything besides warranty work...?

I have always added/connected ("plugged"-in") the RAM in my desktops, and I know where to open this Notebook to find the slot(s) (and have torn-apart a laptop/desktop ... or four), so I think as long as I match "the same properties such as timing/voltage and frequency", I should be good-to-go, don't you agree?

I've run a couple different utilities, to get all the specs, and "Crucial" even scans and then offers sticks for sale/purchase immediately afterward, so again, I "think" I'm going to be ok . . . yes...please?

PS - I JUST NOTICED - THE FIRST SCAN I DID SAID "PC3-10700", BUT THIS CRUCIAL SCAN SAY "PC3-10600" ...?!?

your welcome, you wıll be ok it is very simple process with minimum risk. Rather than using a web application, installing a software and checking would be better and also would be a double check, also to be 100% sure you can just check it by opening 2-3 screws from the bottom cover, if you are lucky you can find a video tutorial on youtube for the same brand of your laptop.

Glenn, I'd say go for what the Crucial scan did tell you if purchasing (additional) memory sticks. Of course, you don't have to buy from them, just write every little detail down on a piece of paper what the scan tells you and go shopping when ready.

Thank you both very much...knowing me, I'll pull the screws outta the bottom (CAREFULLY), and match all the numbers, as I believe I may have difficulty finding the exact same identical "Hyundai" brand.

The SIW software scan bugs me as it stated "PC3-10700",while Crucial mentions (claims) "PC3-10600".

My 100% "guess" is that it's actually something like PC3-10666" (or whatever?), and SIW "rounded-up". There may in fact be no such thing as "10700" (for all I know), so Crucial is giving me what they carry/what will "work", and, well, the only way to know for absolutely 100% sure is to gently uncork it.

    Thank again - much!
